Hallmark - enough is enough
Picked up a Chrimbo card on-spec at Walgreens last night. Nice, basic card. Nothing super fancy.
It rings up as 8.99. I left the store and then immediately turned around and returned it.
That's absolutely ludicrous.
Native born Americans: if you've never been overseas, you won't realize just how atrociously you are being ripped off for greeting cards.
I could buy five cards - and much better quality - in the UK for the same price as one shitty Hallmark card.
I'm surprised someone hasn't swooped in and undercut these greedy bastards. Hell of a business opportunity to bring in superior products at a fraction of the cost.

Moral: Don't buy Hallmark. We bought a nice box of twenty nicely anodyne cards from Barnes and Noble for $10.

Dollar Stores sell cards for 1.00, (american greetings brand where I am) and most other stores, I have never bought a card that cost more then $2 maybe $3 tops,

I rarely buy cards of any kind, but a few days ago decided to give my skating coach one for the holidays. Walgreens, $6.99 for a tri-fold Christmas card. I bought it because it was the perfect design, but glad I only do this once a year, for just one person!

Cards can be such a rip-off. Not unusual to pay AUD$15 here. I was in heaven when I lived in the UK - big, beautifully decorated cards with paper inserts (sometime 4 - 6 pages!), for 99p. They were a huge hit with the family back home, they were amazed at the quality and size.
Something else I was not used to, there's a huge range of recipients, eg brother and sister-in-law, mum and step-dad etc. I brought a load home with me - if anyone dies or gets divorced they're in trouble
