Says he rarely gets caught speeding in his Ferrari, in the US, because he wraps the Plate with Saran-Wrap / Cling film.

Is he actually being serious or pulling the reporter's leg?
He told the Mirror that he seldom gets a ticket because the cling film on his number plate reflects speed camera flashes and stops his high-speed cars from being identified.
The father-of-four, 51, told the paper: 'I drive my cars at night when no one sees me.

A quick Google reveals he's been claiming that since at least 2006. Mythbusters reckoned it didn't work.

Don't remember if New York State is among those states that give tickets to motorists who cover their license plates with a protective plastic sheeting to protect them from weather, mud, etc. It is illegal in some states so perhaps there is a kernel of truth in this proclamation.

I have noticed when we've been on I-95 between NY and RI that a lot of cars do seem to have some transparent covering over their license plates which is polarized or something so they can only be read when directly in front; they're unreadable when in a neighboring lane. I've only ever seen them on CT-registered vehicles, so maybe there's a loophole there that makes them legal.

It's like radar detectors, you're allowed to own one here, but you're not allowed to operate one in your car.

Speaking of license plates it seems that in California owners of high end European imports are exempt from displaying a front license plate. I've lost count of the number of Beemers, Mercs and Audis without a front plate. My neighbor up the street hasn't had even two license plates on his car for over a year

As of now, it's easy to avoid speed camera tickets in California.
