I never got a day off from school for GF, not even at uni. Most people won't get a day off from work either.

Oooooer. I have booked a short break for us lot, so my kids definately wont be at school on GF, or even possibly the Thursday either .....

We will be on Spring break this year so, yes my two youngest are off but will be going back on easter Monday.

I really miss the Easter break. I couldn't believe it the first year we were here and Spring break didn't coincide with Easter

No there isn't an Easter Monday. The holiday is Sunday and unless the school system coincides their spring break with the Easter Holiday, then there is school on Monday.

Business no longer allows employees off for Good Friday. It was once the case. However, they also no longer allow the Jewish employees off for their Jewish holiday.

My husband's school in Westchester is closed from the 20th to the 24th.

Mine either... Infact mine won't be in school for 2 weeks I've never heard the likes, us a good catholic family too... we'll be in Mass on Good Friday

Doesn't sound that surprising to me.

When I was at school only the Catholic schools closed for Good Friday.

Here my Daughter is off Good Friday then not off again until April 7th for her spring break week. In the UK my Grandchildren have Good Friday & Easter Monday off but their 2 week break is also in April.

You guys craack me up... Constant rumble about the prevalence of religion in US society and then aggravated that kids in public schools don't get Good Friday off. I am really suprised kids still get a few days for Christmas, of course they can't say it's for Christmas...

mine are at school all day, and then fly out in the evening for their spring break for a week.!!

Why do you even ask? If Good Friday is important to you, then keep them out of school -- it will be treated as an "excused absence".

I am Jewish and we always had excused absences for the Jewish Holidays. Many employers will remain open, but will grant time off for major religous holidays without counting it against vacation or sick time. Courts will often recess a trial or hearing to accomadate Jewish attorneys.

Do note that the First Amendment to the US Constitution has TWO clauses regarding religion -- the "interference" clause and the "establishment" clause. The two are often in tension and are always getting litigated.
