Not in itself, when approaching with a knife helps.

It's certainly indicative of someone who is not going to "go quietly". If they are wielding a knife I wouldn't expect even several police to tackle him unarmed. He might have been a suitable case for a taser, but as discussed above, there are often reasons why using a taser might not be appropriate even when the public think otherwise after the fact.

Re: Going to be a hot night in Ferguson
If anyone cares to read the article in the link in my post #164, Officer Wilson articulates very well why he feared his life was in danger. The general principle of laws in most countries is that if one has a reasonable fear for their life they may use deadly force to protect it. That fear doesn't have to be proved to be right, just reasonably held.
Perhaps it is easier for me, than most here, to put myself into Officer Wilson's shoes as I read his statement. Having read it now several times I can understand why he says he did nothing wrong and for what my opinion is worth, I would have done exactly the same. As I said in a post in another thread once you take a gun into that sort of situation you have to defend that gun from being taken from you and used against you. I think the officer had a real and genuine fear that if Brown had reached him when he charged the officer, he stood a real chance of losing his gun and being shot. Short of the forensic evidence discounting Officer Wilson's account of the event, there is no evidence to support him standing trial.
