I WANT CICADAS .. soon. I'm patient, but I can't wait forever. I want lots of them, deep fried, wings 'n' all. Smooth eating. Yum. Never mind pictures.

I remeber this happened in Chicago a few years back. I was driving down the I94 to O'Hare and they were all over the place. I couldn't help but think you've waited 17 years only to get crushed by cars on a freeway.

Life's cruel sometimes.

Now that the yard is thawing out I might be a bit proactive and dig the little dears up early. I imagine they are especially tender and succulent when underground still. I have loads of cooking oil on hand so I'm good to go! Surprise the wife for Friday night dinner!

They can't possibly be as bad as the tent caterpiller infestations I've seen here in the US. I think those come every 10 years (?). I remember one summer when they literally coated all vertical surfaces in my relatives' neighbourhood--houses, telephone poles, trees, any bushes--all were covered with this wriggling dark mass of caterpillars. You could not walk anywhere without squishing a dozen or so. So gross!!!!

Now giant snails are invading South Florida

In 15 years time, Tampa Bay could be over-run by these monsters
