GMTV

Looks like GMTV are back on the "everybody should leave the UK" band wagon again this week!!!

I must admit the lifestyle they are showing abroad is very nice and especially after the poor summer the UK have had this year it must be very tempting to some people. However, why do they not show a balanced view of life abroad, surely it can't be sun, sea and sand all the way?? When people move abroad there must still be the run of the mill and day to day life problems and not everything abroad can always be perfect or cheaper. Otherwise why is there anyone still left in the UK??

I have never lived abroad and do not have that yearning to do so, but I do have a friend who has recently emigrated from the UK and in very recent emails I am hearing they are finding that not everything is so much better abroad and they have not been small issues.

Maybe these emigration tv shows should be more objective...but then again it would not make great TV would it.....

I actually think that disaster tv is quite compelling, I love Grand Designs with all the building disasters they have on that show, and would be quite happy to watch something about people emigrating and having a few bumps in the road. That would certainly be more realistic.

Have been away from the UK so long I have never seen any of those pro immigration shows but they do sound like total bollocks from what I hear.

I've seen plenty of these types of shows while visiting home at Christmas, and they are ridiculous. They portray peoples' lives as if they are on holiday 24/7 when they move. Not the least bit realistic!

Well, I'm on that show this week:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=559316

And although i agree with you to a point, having been involved in it, I can safely say that a) As the person being interviewed, you talked utter rubbish because your so nervous and they tell you to talk slower, quicker etc.. and b) The whole segment is about 1.45 mins long - I guess its hard to completely depict someones life in such a short time!

I made it quite clear to the producer that there have been tough times in adjusting to the relocation, now whether that comes across in the piece is down to their 'artistc license' I guess..

Oh, sorry, have to clarify there. I should have said the shows that I have seen are on Australia and Spain, not America. I can see how you would be confused by my comments here.

I've never seen a show on Brits moving to the US. And, as I said on the other thread, I would love to see your interview, because I know that you will tell it like it is, good and bad:thumbsup:

I wasn't trying to insult you, honest:eek::)
