Girls weekend away... question.
 

A group of us are planning a girls weekend away to Vegas, I have never been before. We, or should I say I as it seems I am the one thats doing the research on flights deals etc, are looking at New York New York, Luxor and Exalibur. Anyone stayed at any of those hotels? Any other recommendations? Someone else suggested Circus Circus... that one does not really appeal.

No, CC is a hole and you need to stay on the Strip. I like the Paris, but for a girlie weekend would look at Ceasers, Venetian or even Planet Hollywood, shopping is good at all these and they are in the centre of the strip.

I stayed at New York a few months ago and wasn't very impressed, there was lots of work going on but would say it was more of a 20 something hotel. Exalibur is a bit shabby, but the Luxor is quite nice inside but I haven't stayed in their rooms.

Hubby and I are going to Vegas on the 25th, we are staying at the Bellagio, looks ok from what I see online, we are going there because MIL has membership at the casino and they do room rates cheaper for members...find out if any of your friends have memberships, it would save a lot of money;)

Circus Circus is a cheap nasty place...Excalibur was nice 10 years ago when we stayed there, pretty cool outdoor entertainment at night.

I agree, Circus is horrible, don't stay there. I've stayed at The Luxor before, it was very nice, lovely swimming pool, perfect for a girls weekend. I always think the Paris looks very nice too. I may be going on a girls' Vegas weekend this summer, and I think my friends are looking at the Pink Flamingo.

I'm actually going to Vegas this weekend with a few girlfriends. We are staying at the Hilton by the convention centre. Not the most happening place but for $59 per night for a double room that includes breakfast and 2 cocktails who is going to complain. After all, a hotel is only a place you sleep. Also it is a stop on the monorail line.

However I have stayed at both the Excalibur and Circus Circus before and would have to say never again. Too many kids hanging around the edge of the casino whilst the parents gamble away the grocery money for my liking.

We stayed at the Bellagio last year, nice rooms but very crowded. Also I prefer somewhere that you can get a reasonably priced meal onsite, something that definitely does not apply to the Bellagio. They do have a fabulous french pastry cafe which I will definitely be visiting.

Monte Carlo - stayed there a few times and the rooms were good and very reasonably priced. they also have some good reasonably priced food options.

When I was looking for my weekend away Hilton was by far away the best price out there. I prefer to spend less on the room and more on cocktails.

Never stayed, but its next to the Paris so central location. Has a monorail station too which is handy

We are meeting up with MIL and FIL on our first night at the Bellagio, they are taking us to the buffet at the Paris for our Anniversary dinner, she says it is just a short walk from our hotel? ever eaten there?

The one time I was in Vegas with the missus we stayed at the Luxor. It was perfectly ok.

Others have commented on other hotels, so I'll address a couple of other issues. If you're going in the summer, it will be HOT. The Luxor pool was nice all right, but I needed sandals to walk from my chair to the pool and back... the pool deck area was too hot for bare feet. In a similar vein, the properties on the strip are very large, larger than you think. Thus walking from one hotel/casino is farther and takes longer than you realize if you haven't been there before. Couple that with 100+ temps and it's not fun if you're not prepared for it. And skip the buffets. There are plenty of reasonably priced real restaurants where you can get an excellent meal.

Good advise Bill. Its a good idea to stay at a hotel with a monorail station, or at least on the correct side of the road.

It can take 20 minutes to walk from the Bellagio to the Paris even though it is just across the road.

Wow! She made it sound like they were 'connected'. I guess it won't be too bad for us to do a little walking though, I'm not expecting too much heat by the end of this month :fingerscrossed:

The last time we were there (10 yrs ago) I enjoyed walking up and down the strip at night, it was pretty interesting to see the 'sights' just got a little annoying having to 'ignore' all the guys trying to hand us leaflets for the 'nightlife' :eek:

Ugh I have been in July before and have to agree with the comments on the temperature. I didn't want to step foot outside for fear of melting.

I think going from the Bellagio to Paris will be easy as they are virtually across from each other. There is a cross walk from the Bellagio to the other side and the Paris should be a short stroll from there. I've never been to the buffet there before as I am not a big buffet person. I think years ago they used to be a real bargain but not so much anymore. I don't like buffets because I find myself becoming greedy and wasteful, something which I am always quick to criticise others for.

I found it quite pleasurable to walk there at night once the sun and set and the burning of the sun went away. However, be prepared for the crowds and make sure you stay hydrated.
