Default Frank Lloyd Wright House for sale in Virginia Beach, VA

Not many chances to snap one up. Who's going to buy it and take on the challenge of owning such a historical home. I could not imagine having children growing up in it , but mine were destructive.

They're a dime a dozen here in Chicago:
http://www.savewright.org/index.php?page=33

$1.2MM for a 4,200 sq ft Wright original in a good neighborhood right near downtown (like the first listing) is really not bad. I they're hard to sell because they're possibly the worst engineered houses ever made, every single one generally has major structural problems. The man was a design genius but he certainly never let practicality intrude.

There's only 3 in the state of Virginia, this one has bedroom walls which don't go all the way up to the ceiling. Not something we or the children would have liked.

I am more drawn to his earlier houses. I do like the first one listed.

There are a couple near me in LA. They are known to leak. A fourth, Hollyhock House, is owned by the City of Los Angeles. I'd rather own a Neutra.

Why wouldn't it be good for children?

Not very soundproof if the walls don't go all the way up, my kids don't want to hear what goes on in my bedroom. Maybe you have a more open family.

So because of that song, I knew who he was as a kid in the UK. Now I'm living in Scottsdale, AZ, I find out he had his second home and some kind of school or retreat here called Taliesin - about 5 minutes from where I'm living! I have yet to visit ...

You know you want a vacation home on the east coast.

I've heard how FLW homes were "technically" (from an engineering perspective) 'bad'. I've never understood quite what the requirements of being an architect are; I would have thought you would have to have a super-solid grounding in all the mechanical aspects, THEN worry about matters of 'space' and 'design' - kind of how surgeons have to study the basics before studying their 'specialty'.

Oh right, yes that is a bit odd.

How about a John Lautner? The Sheats-Goldstein is pretty cool looking!

I do like Fallingwater -- though perhaps the sound of the water would drive one nuts after a while.
