Florida vacation with 5 year-old

Hello, I don't venture in here very often as I've only been in the US since last June and don't have any words of wisdom to offer.

I'm starting to arrange a week's holiday for us (couple) in Seattle to meet up with a friend and her 5 year-old in April, the week after Easter. To make it easier for her I'm trying to make it a one flight journey from Boston; we can do two if necessary. We'd like it to be somewhere warm and, rather than go to the Caribbean, she's suggested Florida.

If you have any advice on child-friendly places it would be much appreciated. We don't want theme parks, just a hotel or apartment with a pool and a child-friendly beach, perhaps even a kids' club. (A couple of years ago we rented an apartment in Cape Cod - we came over from Oz - which was great then but now Mini is a bit older and braver it would be nice for her to have some company of a similar age.)

Thanks.

this immediately springs to mind. Stayed when family visited, and ex used to work there, so personal recommendation! Fly into Tampa. 30 mins or 2 hours drive depending on time😀
April weather is as perfect as it gets here.

Sandpearl Hotel/Resort on Clearwater beach is worth taking a look at. Personally never stayed there but have used the outdoor bar a few times.

Can't help on destination, but something to consider on the Boston outbound flight. There are cheaper and easier flights out of Worcester and even Rhode Island, which is a short drive. We're talking $20 a week parking versus double that a day. But also, it's a much easier airports to deal with with younger kids than Boston.

When we used to take our kids to Florida we preferred the gulf coast. The beaches were nice and it was quieter than the Atlantic side. It's been a while since I was there, but I'll see if I can find the name of the place we stayed.

There's a Disney property in Vero Beach that's supposed to be very nice. It's not theme park, but I'm sure the kiddos will be well catered for.

Sanibel Island seems to get a lot of votes from families.

I would have said a little isolated unless you don't plan on leaving the resort during your stay. So much more to see and do in the Clearwater/St Petes area, especially with kids and a shortish driving distance with Tampa airport close by. Siesta Key and Pine Island Gulf side are still top of my list of places that blew me away when I first moved over here but a long drive from where I live near the 'mouse' to visit often.

Another vote for the Clearwater/St Pete's Beach area, never been disappointed on visits there and great for little ones with lovely safe beaches and one of them, maybe both, has a Pirate Ship that sails out and blasts a cannon from memory. You also have the Manatee's to go see in the sea. For a change of pace you can pop into Tampa.
