Seems an irrelevant position.
I hope the slut shaming ends.

There could possibly be some softening of Trump's stance on the LBGT community because of Melania's influence.

Definitely vacuous but probably innocuous.

I wouldn't call Hillary Clinton a loser either. Politically she had the experience and the knowledge and she is a very strong and determined lady.

But inclined to make bad judgments and lacking somewhat when it comes to persuade people to vote for her. Had it been otherwise she would have garnered all of Bernie's Millenials without around half of them them feeling alienated from her

Not the first though. Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan come to mind

I have always felt that Michelle Obama has been an excellent First Lady. Her intelligence, personality and general positive demeanor have been a joy to see during her husband's time as President. They obviously have a great personal and working relationship together.

So what are everyone's thoughts on the new First Lady, Melania?

Can she handle the pressure. Will she be involved or will she just be there to look good?

I thought she was nothing more than a Trophy Wife....you mean she might have a brain?

Sounds a bit sexist.

Off to my safe space.

In all the media pictures of her at the White House yesterday she seemed very uneasy, I didn't see much emotion at all. But, she may have just felt nervous and uncomfortable.

I don't think she is dumb, I mean she did catch herself a rich sugar daddy ( I suppose you have to be smart or just a bit devious to do that! ) I'm not saying you have to be super smart to be a First Lady but you do have to have personality, charisma and at least look like you are happy to be in the White House with your man.

The last bit, hmmm, I'm not sure about

I totally agree with you and your thoughts on Michelle Obama - a very smart and classy lady! I liked Laura Bush too - thought she was great (not so keen on her husband)! As for Melania - not sure - I guess only time will tell - that's if he doesn't trade her in for #4 - you never know - she's getting old - mid 40s - not sure the Donald likes his women much older than that!!

I don't think that will happen - but you never know. None of us know what goes on in a marriage "behind closed doors". Who would have thought that after the whole Monica scandal that Bill and Hillary would still be together - but look at Al and Tipper Gore - divorced some years ago. Remember "the kiss"???
Somehow, I think that Bill and Hillary will grow old together.

Ahhh, it's all a bit too soon.....obviously I didn't vote for them. Anyway, I'm sure she is nervous, I'll be interested to see what she has to offer besides making excuses for her buffoon husband.

Ok, let's see I'm sure there's something positive that I can say about this.....:o:unsure: She smiles and waves nicely.

The last bachelor elected to the White House was Grover Cleveland in 1886, but he married in his first term. As Rete said, James Buchanan, elected in 1857, was the only unmarried president to stay single his whole life.

Phil Collins was wrong when he claimed that it's no fun being an illegal alien.

Re: First Lady, your thoughts?

My feelings about this woman are mixed. I knew a young woman like this once. She was my sister's friend and set her sights on marrying a millionaire. She did achieve this. Someone 13 years older than herself at the local yacht club a lot of us frequented. I did because I liked to sail a bit and the only way was to crew.
My sister's friend was and is an intelligent person in her own right but she undoubtedly used her assets to do this and indeed succeeded. ( She wasn't into sailing ) I always felt she had sold herself short or taken a shortcut. Not just that though. That she had somehow silently sent a not so good message about the rest of us young women crewing around the place at that time. I lost the taste for being there in the end.

My thoughts on Melania are that she needs to shape up . Shape up good and shape up fast. Not sit , act & sound like a pudding .

IMO her 'cause' should be ensuring diversity, tolerance and understanding in the USA and championing the settling of immigrants to the country. Please note I have not written 'illegal immigrants' but she should certainly get up to speed on that fast & educate herself. She should get right on in there with Syrian refugees . Right on in there with the exploited. Simply right on in there.

She is an immigrant herself , regardless of how she achieved her legal status* , and English is not her first language. She was able to use her looks and body to further herself. Yup. I wrote that. I really don't think it was a meeting of the mind and soul. Not everyone is able to do as she has done but those people out there in the world with the verve to move and change their lives for hopefully a better life still deserve the same security and protection that her celebrity marriage has given her.

So. Her role should be an unofficial ambassador. As a foreign non-English speaking immigrant from a very culturally different country (and whose immigration status is under the microscope) with her focus to help those self same people.

That pair said they wanted change. Make a positive change.

Anything else is vacuous & in the case of internet bullying, double standards.
