Some parts of BC are 400+ on the air quality range since yesterday, if its this bad here without actual fires, I can only imagine how bad the air is where there are fires.

The air quality is slowly improving in San Francisco. I walked six miles in Golden Gate Park and on Ocean Beach this morning. Lungs feel fine, but I do have a headache now, so clearly it's not that healthy to be doing what I'm doing!

Vancouver area seems to be improving a bit.

Our area further east is showing 248.5 on your link, Castlegar comes in the worst it seems in BC still at 463.8 but Castlegar is way far east and south so closer to some fires.

The official provincial website lists our area as

BC is as bad as here according to the local rag

The international air quality monitoring website IQAir.com was registering a lower number of 229 for Portland overall. That number is deemed “very unhealthy” for everyone. And it was still high enough to place Portland in the No. 1 position for worst air quality among major cities in the world. Measurements fluctuated by the hour and at times Sunday morning Portland was tying with Vancouver, B.C.

if we go out we are using our N95 respirators, that we just happen to have. Thankfully we have a couple. I'm not sure if smoke inhalation has serious long term effects on health, my feeling is no.

I beleive parts of BC are getting a triple whammy, we still have some fires burning within the province (although not many, this is actually the least active fire season BC has had in a decade.) plus smoke from WA and Oregon, and who knows maybe California too.

I haven't been outside today, but even staying inside I am coughing up a storm, and can feel the tightness in my chest, usual for me in smoky air.

We, and a sizeable chunk of the level 1 area, have been removed from the evacuation zones. The mandatory evacuation zone remains unchanged.

I first read that as you have been physically removed from the evacuation zone, as in.... you'd been evacuated!

I was asking about that earlier. How good are the lungs at getting rid of debris, and what damage does the smoke do while it's in there. Presumably similar issues to cigarette smoke, 2nd-hand smoke, etc.

We have gotten a bit worse, PM2.5 (1h): 292.1 µg/m3 last reading at 4pm on the provincial website.

From 3 years ago, but smoke hasn't changed much in 3 years.

I don't know, but considering that pollution in London in the 1960s was, or at least felt, much worse, and people have generally survived that, I don't worry about this wood smoke. I very much doubt that it's as bad as cigarette smoke.

The Clackamas County Fairgrounds & Event Center has been serving as an emergency evacuation center for animals. This service began September 8th at 12:30am and have served a total of 1,565 animals and their owners as of September 13th at 10am.

Some of the mandatory level 3 area has been down graded to level 2, so at least some people can start the return home. Not because the riverside fire is contained, but that the weather conditions mean the advance of the fire has slowed down considerably.
