Sometimes we just gotta rely on what we see, if you see what these photos show, don't believe the air quality monitors...

At least get some stuff together that you can grab and go. Get paperwork and other important stuff together with essentials, either already in the car or by the door, ready to go.

I see that the Forest Service has closed down all national forests in California, and pretty much all campgrounds and beaches around Lake Tahoe are being closed due to fire danger, including the aptly named Chimney Beach.

A really weird day today, especially in the evening. The while day had a real orange hue that intensified as the day drew to an end. Tried to get a photo, but the camera does such a good job of adjusting for light, the orange didn’t show up. The best way I can describe it is, I imagine that’s what it would look like on Mars.

Very true! What should be a special treat just at sunset is now an all-day-long affair. Perhaps CA can adopt a new advertising slogan - "California - the land of all-day sunsets!"

It's so orange and dark and depressing. The smoke is hanging in the air, but the fire is 50% contained. So of the pictures coming out of Oregon are as scary as other parts of the West coast. You have to live this to know what it's really like, I don't think cameras really capture it fully.

The orange glow has gone from San Francisco this morning, but interestingly the air quality is way worse.

It's not so bad when wearing a respirator, I can thank covid for the fact that I now own a couple. The air quality map says it's not too bad here, but it hurts my throat and smells a lot.

As for Los Angeles - colour of the sky where I live matches the white background of these posts.

At least the temperature has dropped (for now) from the 108 degree inferno we were subjected to a few days ago - to a blissful 75

And that was INDOORS, in the dark, with all shades drawn and windows shut, with NO AC.

Not orange today, but Smokey as ........... You should be able to see Monterey quite clearly from here, you can’t even see the tower at the moment!!!

Time is coming to start packing bags. The level 2 evacuation has been extended and is now 6 miles away from us, and the fire is heading towards Oregon City then it's all suburbs to Portland. Perhaps when Oregon City is threatened someone might listen to the fire chiefs pleas for air tankers.
