Not much of a looker, eh?

I'll have to listen to that Slade song everyone's posting sometime - I'm pretty sure I haven't heard that either.

Vic Reeves did one about 'Bigamy at Christmas' which I can't find.

Always loved it, these days it can leave me in tears.
I love listening to these songs. Like a time machine to the past. This one...1977 on a rainy holiday in Scotland...in my Dad's Granada. Also the first time I heard Sgt Pepper. Couldn't believe my ears.

There's a documentary about it! Legendary Kirsty MacColl (RIP) and the Pogues.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairytale_of_New_York

"Although the song finished 1987 as the 48th best seller of the year despite only a single month's sales, it was denied the Christmas #1 spot by the Pet Shop Boys' cover of "Always on My Mind". MacGowan commented on this in his typically forthright manner: "We were beaten by two queens and a drum machine."

We sing the Hippopotamus song with "Jippopotamus" instead because of our cat Jip. I just was listening to that clip the other night! The singer has a love-it-or-hate-it voice. Shirley Temple on helium.

It will be forever burned into your brain! Actually, only if you listen to it every hour....
