I think you're thinking of 'Bad Santa'. 'The Santa Clause' is with Tim Allen, the third movie in the trilogy (The Santa Clause 3, The Escape Clause) was released about a month ago, I've yet to see it, but have 1 & 2 on DVD, I love 'em!

oh, yeah, thinking of the wrong movie...Bad Santa, superb stuff...can't say I remember the Tim Allen jobby....though I've probably seen the first one, not sure about the sequel...the third one doesn't look to promising though....

Me too, I love the whole thing, I think Dawn French is excellent.

I bumped into Hugo (James Fleet) & his wife (Jane Booker) once, I walked right into them at a Christmas Carol service. I used to go to the same school as their son. It's a small world!

I guess being a welsh lass (adopted one anyway!) listening to that makes me feel quite homesick.

I don't think British Christmas tele can be beaten! Dawn French is superb and all the obvious stuff like 'Only fools and horses' and the rest that have already been mentioned.
I love threads like this one but then again they make me feel so homesick I shouldn't read them really!

We've got the DVD.

The music throughout the film is good IMO.

Believe it or not, I actually miss watching the Queen on the telly at 3pm on Christmas Day...

When a was a kid I think they always had Top of the Pops on afterwards, (we always seemed to have BBC 1 on) then Billy Smart's Circus...whilst on BBC 2 they usually had a ballet on.

You'll have to try and watch an episode of Prime Suspect instead.

That is a good series, no doubt, but its not light watching. You really need a good hour of undisturbed peace and quiet to watch one.

Touch of Frost is the best police drama hands down.
Some of them can get too gritty, like Cracker.....

I just saw Surviving Christmas with Ben Affleck and while it was OK, what I found funny was the parents and family reminded me of the many grumps here on BE and how you lot probably are this season

And an expat's American wife, too! Every time I see that scene I just start crying, because it reminds me SO MUCH of when Mark finally came through the swinging doors at the arrival area of Dulles Airport, after flying in on his K1 visa and being stuck in customs/immigration for 2+ HOURS after his plane landed. I thought they might have turned him away, I had no idea where he was! So to FINALLY see him -- after not seeing him at all for 5 months -- I ran up to him just like in "Love, Actually" and gave him the BIGGEST HUG EVER!

Needless to say, "Love, Actually" is not just one of my favorite Xmas movies, it's one of my favorite movies, period. (I've watched it twice in the past week already!) It's warm and gooey and sweet and cute, the epitome of guilty pleasures. But, well-acted, funny, serious and heartwarming, all at the same time. Oh, and the soundtrack's not bad, either -- it's in the CD player in my car at the moment!

Other favorite Xmas movies:

"A Christmas Story" -- first watched this in the theatre exactly 23 years and 1 day ago, on my 11th birthday
"It's a Wonderful Life" -- although I think this is good any time of year
"Miracle on 34th Street" -- someone earlier listed this and said "the original" but I think that goes without saying!
"Elf" -- if you haven't seen it, you might be surprised by how sweet it is

I LOVE the "Vicar of Dibley!" And we have some of the "Only Fools and Horses" on DVD -- I had never heard of it (gasp!) and we watch the Xmas episode on the DVD each year.

Speaking of good Xmas tv specials.... "The Office," anyone? One of my absolute favorites. The only downside is that, at the end, you know it's over for good and you'll never see them again.
