I think a lot of people are freaking out about very little. The fact is that they have to publish your information to other people's profiles, so technically they need the licensing rights from you to this information to be allowed to do this.

But regarding the forever thing, I also think that if someone had posted pictures that appeared on my profile, just because they deleted their account I wouldn't necessarily want those pictures to be removed.

And if you have uploaded something that you don't want anybody else to see why would you do that in the first place.

Facebook is voluntary. CCTV cameras, ID cards, DNA databases are not.

Most Poeple? Or most people who post things on their facebook that they later regret? If you choose to be on facebook then you have to make yourself aware of what your allowing yourself to be involved in. I love it myself, even though I've said things on there that maybe I shouldn't have when I've had a glass or 3 or wine :)

i thought fb had backed down on the change to their TOS in the short term whist they work out how to placate everyone?

Well I think they had so many complaints from people who didn't realise their pictures were now the property of Facebook they had no choice but to back down.

I don't think it changes how the site acts though, if you delete your account your pictures would still stay in there if they were on someone elses page, but I guess someone could now complain to get these removed.

Not on there, refuse to go there. Even had the odd disagreement with friends, because both her at home & me, are possibly the only 2 people not on there.
As I type, just received email from old Brit pal, telling us to join.:eek: She lives in Cyprus, gets Facebook, is everywhere.

Bit, like banning Cell phones in cinema's. they should ban the word Facebook, in public..

you can set your privacy settings to the max and they have to honour those even if you delete the account.

Some of my friends have deleted all their pictures because of the new rule. TBH - I couldnt care less if someone wants to 'keep' my old school pictures or pictures of me sitting in a cafe, or the kids in some cute dressing up outfit etc - so this has zero impact on me.

I think one of many signs that I am becoming an old fart is that I would never join Facebook.

Another old fart sign is that although I have a PAYG mobile phone, it's a 5-year-old cast-off from my brother, I make almost no calls from it (I put 100 quid on it after he gave it to me 2 years ago and I think it still has about 80 pounds credit), I won't give my number to anyone, and I have vowed to never replace it unless it gets broken.
