My first interview for university was in Newcastle - within site of the fantastic St James' Park footie ground. We're used to hearing Geordies up here in Edinburgh so I had no bother for the two days and one night I was in NewCASSLE....never, ever call it New-CARSSLE! Not ever, ever, even if you're from the South of England.

Nice pubs in Newcastle and Gateshead and the Geordies sure know how to make use of them. I saw more pissheads in one night there than I've ever seen anywhere else in the UK.

Not in this pub though, it seems....if it is a pub, that is...if it is it looks pretty sedate for Tyneside, and it has to be Tyneside as the bloke is singing "Keep yar feet still, Geordie hinny"...I've heard a gang of blootered Geordies signing that song in a pub on Rose Street, Edinburgh....

Just saw this little item. If one was to ask me about Admiral Jacky Fisher's contribution to the language, I would respond with "dreadnaught" as a noun for a particular type of battleship. I never would have thought of "OMG."
