Default "Einstein's Riddle" - Can you solve it?

This riddle (which probably has nothing to do with Einstein) has been floating around the interwebs over the last few days. Articles are claiming that only 2% of people solve this, although I have my doubts that anyone could possibly know that.

I figured it out with some work. It takes more than a minute, but it's manageable:
___________

There are five houses in five different colors in a row. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The five owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage. Other facts:

1. The Brit lives in the red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The green house is on the immediate left of the white house.
5. The green house's owner drinks coffee.
6. The owner who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The owner living in the center house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The owner who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The owner who keeps the horse lives next to the one who smokes Dunhill.
12. The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The owner who smokes Blends lives next to the one who drinks water.

The question is: who owns the fish?
___________

Here are some hints for solving this:

Spoiler:
It helps to create a spreadsheet/grid with each of the possible categories (Brit, Dane, coffee, beer, etc.) listed individually on the left and the relative position of the houses (#1-5) at the heads of the columns.

Spoiler:
If your experience is like mine, then you'll have to work through every single item before getting to the answer -- there won't be a Eureka! shortcut in the middle of it.

Spoiler:
Start with the Norwegian.

Have fun. You can Google the answer, of course, but I'll provide it later if you'd like.

I think I got it, though 'on the immediate left' got me asking questions.

I wonder if the 2% claim is pre or post the mainstream publication of sudoku? It's the same logic and reasoning.

Bloggers often don't bother to fact check or vet information. It's easier to repeat a claim than to verify it.

So long as you step through logically it is reasonably straightforward.

Because playing a brain game makes real life problems so much worse.

I suppose that we could change it to make it politically relevant:

How many Syrian refugees should they take in?
