Earphones

Re: Earphones
The Bose ones you speak of run about $100. I have those and LOVE them. So far they are the only ones that produce the amount of bass that I need. I've tried others and even owned a pair of Sonys but it's a far cry from the Bose Tri Port In-Ear Earbuds. I love the fact that they come with sized silicon ear inserts that customize the fit. I bought these to replace the rinky-dink white iPod earphones that came with my iPod. They kept slipping out my ears when I worked out on the treadmill. These fit perfectly and dampen the noise around me. See if you can find them on eBay and then go retail. It's worth the extra $50. Trust me.

Re: Earphones
I do not wish to highjack this thread but...
I'm fed-up with my sons borrowing my Bose because they keep breaking their headphones.
They prefer over the ear ones - any recommendations for durable ones that won't break the bank?

Re: Earphones
I have to say that on the noise cancelling thing, the Sennheiser ones do block out most external sound and if you play your music as loud as me you will not be able to hear anything else. For example, I cant hear me bashing the keyboard right now. Even with no music playing, they work pretty well as ear plugs!
As Neil says, forget the battery operated ones - waste of time. I just like Sennheiser becasue they have a pedigree when it comes to headphones (and microphones). They are true specialists.

Re: Earphones
Have you compared with the Sennheiser (linked to above), or the Shure (both of which are cheaper than the Bose)? It would be interesting to know then whether they are worth the extra. The Shure ones I have don't seem to have any trouble knocking out enough bass, and both of these come with a range of ear inserts to give you the right fit.

They're very highly regarded (even by What Hi-Fi) and are very, very well priced. I dont work for Sennheiser I promise.

The Bose phones are tasty though, especially for noise cancelling, especially in passive mode...bloke I share the office with has a set he got on the cheap and they are awesome.

No, no, no. Classic schoolboy error there. You want these from Sennheiser:

I'm listening to them right now. Believe me I've tried every type of in ear headphone (including the Sony ones you mention) and these are far and away the best I have ever had. Be careful where you get them from though as there are millions of counterfeits out there.
Good luck.
p.s. note that most people that give them low ratings dont realise that you need to push them all the way in before you get the real sound! This feels weird if your not used to it.

Re: Earphones
In ears can be harmful to your hearing. I would always recommend the over the ear kind. They will sound better and less likely to damage your hearing. They might not look cute and sporty but they have much better sound.

Re: Earphones
Well, I got these for Christmas and am a little disappointed I have to say. The bass is less than what I'm used to, it's OK just not stella. The buds they come with are just OK too, I've actually ended up using the ones from my broken sony set. The biggest problem I have with them is that they have a constant hiss that you can hear all the time. Can't take them back because they were a gift and Amazon wont accept them so I guess I'll give them a little while longer before I get another set. Might contact Sennheiser to see what they have to say.
