The rest of the week it is more like pre-booked private hire runs to the airport and the like, and a surprising (her words) number of kid drop offs at evening activities. Reckons the evening pub-run business is almost exclusively expats.

Please tell me it's run out of a tiny little office in the city somewhere that smells like fags and has dirty tea cups lying around everywhere ...

I was expecting a more 'matron' look, with curlers in the hair.

This Easter Sunday my in-laws will be drinking and think nothing about driving home afterwards.

I can't remember where I saw it, but it was just in the last couple of days. There had been a study (AAA maybe?) on teenage drivers and distractions while driving (not just cellphones). They all had videocams in the cars, watching the drivers. There were various sequences showing how the kids were "switching off" while they were talking, but and there was one stunning sequence where a 17 year old had a phone to his ear. Pulled up to an intersection. Stopped. Looked Left. Looked Right. Looked Left. Looked Right. Appeared to be doing everything right, but he still had the phone at his ear as he pulled out and got t-boned by an 18-wheeler he hadn't seen.

ETA - it was AAA - and the incident I was referring to was very similar to the one at 1:00 in this video clip

Interesting lack of emotion on a lot (not all) of their faces when they realized what was going on.

The RAC here in Western Australia had an experimental car that was run off the driver's attention. When the driver stopped paying attention to what they were doing the car's power was reduced so the car was slowed. RAC introduces world's first Attention Powered Car | Media releases | RAC WA
