It's fairly commonly available in (non fast-food) fish restaurants in NC and on the East Coast.

Unfortunately it never coincides with an authentic fish n chips experience.

Luckily for you, you are a lot closer to the North Sea than we are. Authentic fish n chips isn't really a thing out here, though you will see cod at a fish fry.

One day next week will catch the North Yorkshire Moors train from Pickering to Whitby for a fish and chip lunch.

Now I'm envious. Don't forget the mushy peas.

I've been back in the UK for about 12 hours now. Not managed a Gregg's but did have a proper pot of hot tea and a bakewell tart while waiting as I changed trains in Swansea. Such novelty buying tea made with boiling water!

There is a revival and many of us God-fearing tea-drinkers actively encourage the use of loose tea, teapots and boling water.

But God forbid not from Greggs surely? I bought one once and threw it away- Not sure what the "sausage" was made of but it wasn't what I consider sausage.

I like haddock too don't worry

There's a Codfather on the Isle of Wight. Except there they probably have haddock more than cod...

I have never been to Greggs because Northern Ireland didn't get one until recently, but Nutek paints such a picture of their sausage rolls that I want one by proxy. I'm an absolute sucker for shite meat in iffy pastry that will probably kill me because well life's too short isn't it?

Cod is probably offered as well. Like in NI, if you get a 'fish supper' it's likely to be whiting or rock salmon. Probably haddock if you're lucky but I only ever remember eating that at home when my mum bought some frozen from M&S. Plaice and cod are offered but listed separately.

Greggs is an institution. I'd never eat anything from there but it does make me smile to see they're now at every other service station on the M1.

Fish, chips and mushy peas, eaten out of paper with my fingers - that's an absolute must on any visit to my folks in Redcar (NE coast, above Whitby). A Pacitto's lemontop (hi Marcus, I know you have a google alert going) is something I really only still have because my niece insists on it, far too sweet for me these days. An M&S pork pie or scotch egg is usually part of a hotel room picnic when I'm in Leeds.

I don't like tea, never have. Getting a decent strong black coffee in the UK can be a problem. Starbucks, Costa, etc., should be banned. (Says the woman about to move to the home of Starbucks.)
