Oh right. The internet is right, certainly about the tyres.

That list of points is pretty interesting. It's 12 points isn't it for a license suspension. Yet you kill someone driving dangerously or whilst drunk, it's a maximum of 11 points?? 3 points for effectively driving blind if you wear glasses??? And what the heck is furious driving LOL.

Causing death by dangerous driving attracts up to 11 points, however, they are almost always going to end up with a custodial sentence, so the points are somewhat of an anomaly and maximum sentences for this are likely to be increased. Defective parts may/will cause the officer to check your MOT status, and he may require you to get them sorted at an approved MOT centre, he gives you a paper which has to be filled in at the centre, and then to report back, with the completed form. You are normally give a week to do this, of course if you do not have a current MOT, then that is another offence. There are, of course, times when the police believe the vehicle is in to bad a condition to be driven safely, and then, along with all the offences, the police take the car, and it can only be recovered from the pound if it is to be taken to a repair centre on a trailer, or to the scrapyard.

I did think that. I googled it. It appears to be one of those laws where if you do something wrong but it's not covered under one of the obvious laws, they can throw this one at you. From Wikipedia "This offence is created by section 35 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861 (drivers of carriages injuring persons by furious driving):"

Most people? I would say not. Some do, some after three years, others much longer. Many people in the UK only buy used cars because the price of new cars is relatively very high compared to the price of used cars.

My father only ever bought one new car in his life, and kept cars for anything from 4-10 years. I bought three cars in the UK and all were used; I suspect that if I had stayed there I may never have bought a new car.

If you look at the reg plates of UK cars there are very few who buy every two years, and a lot of the really new cars on the road are fleet lease cars. There aqre still a huge number of pre 2000 cars around. I only ever had one new car, and that was because my wife had mobility allowance that allowed us to get one for free, and they do change those evbry 3 years.

My family too. They used to buy the cheapest old bangers they could find, run them into the ground, sell them for scrap, rinse and repeat. That did mean my family had a rather eclectic vehicular history. If you saw the Wartburg (East German "executive car") on James May's Cars of the People the other week, we had one of those.

I'm trying to remember did they change the rules on company cars recently? Used to be very favorable.

What is the relevance of this question to the US/Trailer Park sub-forum? Can't quite make the connection here....

I think a lot of folks who do the new car cycle do it at the 3 year mark, when a car is required to get a MOT as they weren't required within 3 years.

I don't know if that's still the case mind.
