I agree on the Cadburys. About 2 years ago I received genuine British Cadbuys hazelnut chocolate bars from England; I compared it to an American Caburys hazelnut bar; the later was very bland and not rich in taste like the British one.

The Blue (salt & vinegear) was my favourite.

I'm American. I went to Canada on a business trip and got a bag of ketchup Doritos to try. I loved them! My colleagues thought they were gross. LOL

Ketchup Doritos were the best. Only limited time though so not always available, they seem to come and go.

Cadbury in Canada is probably closer to the UK taste, Hershey doesn't make Cadbury for Canadian market, and Hershey even changes its own recipe in Canada for most of their Hershey branded chocolate. A regular Hershey chocolate bar in Canada is not the same as regular Hershey bar in the US, same name, different tastes.

Cadbury’s in Canada isn’t too bad. Cadbury’s in New Zealand is the best, I would say just about identical to the chocolate made in the UK.

Hershey’s is just dreadful, absolutely dreadful.

While I miss the range (and price) of UK crisps/chips, I find the interesting range of Jalapeno flavoured crisps make an ok substitute.

As for Herschey's, I make it a personal policy that butyric acid in the volume found in chocolate only travels one way in my throat.

There's a chocolate factory near where I worked (pre corona layoff) in Chicago. Every now and then it vents this vile smell. To others it smelled as a lovely chocolate smell. To me, not so much It wasn't Hershey but they apparently use the same method. Americans and British must have different noses as well as taste buds.

I recall driving past Cadbury's in the Midlands (UK) and thinking that it had a bit of a pong, I don't recall that being the nasty stink of butyric acid though. It's an old US trick to add the stuff to help preserve the milk products, I believe and not something any self respecting European would to chocolate - I wouldn't care if they stuck it in the milk because I don't drink the stuff but chocolate, FFS.

From what I heard, it was orginally a quirk of the way the chocolate was produced, or a production error, but the customers tolerated it and it has some benefits .... apparently even bacteria don't like it!

To anyone doubting the importance of fresh oil and quality potatoes, compare M&S crisps with KP ..... they come out of the same friers.

In Hong Kong we had Cadburys, but they were bulk imported from Australia and tasted a bit different than the ones from the UK (which were separately imported and cost a bit more money). Different milk taste maybe?

I believe the recipe is changed according to the climate. Cadbury’s in NZ has the same taste as the UK...I was told that was because the climate is similar.
