DC by night

We have a weekend to see Washington DC et al as an add-on to our reccy.
We are considering trying to re-create a night tour in our own car using GPS navigation.
Are we totally insane or is this a viable way of seeing the capital by night???

Thanks.....

DC at night isn't all that tough, and some of the things you see during the day will be quite dull at night.

The best bits of Washington at night are the monuments, and a car kind of gets in the way of that. If you park between the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorial and walk around both, then catch the Vietnam and Korea memorials at night as well. Be sure to go to the 'back side' of the Lincoln as it is a pretty view of the water, etc.

You can then drive past the Capitol at night. It's quite impressive all lit up. Park near the White House / Laffayette Park and then walk to the White House and take a few pics.

The other thing I'd recommend is driving over the bridge to Arlington Cemetery / US Marine Corp Memorial. The road that is the entrance to Fort Meyer / next to Arlington offers one incredible view of all the monuments and the Capitol lit up at night.

Other than that, drive in Georgetown, park the car, and walk around the bars and shops.

Most other bits of the city are kind of dull at night. Some parts are not dull but not safe, but chances are you'll avoid those.
