Consequences of the UK leaving Europe

Re: Consequences of the UK leaving Europe
I'm pretty sure Cameron, Boris et al very much misjudged the mood. They thought this would be an easy win for the remain camp and everyone would move on just like the Scottish referendum. Boris as a de facto Leave leader would be a fool to want to be PM now. Not only does he not have a plan, they never did, never expected to need one. PM is the hottest hot potato in the history of hot potatoes.

Their rating hasn't been downgraded yet, but their outlook has been put on negative. I do expect that Moody's and others will downgrade the UK in the near future.

Re: Consequences of the UK leaving Europe
There have been multiple news agencies stating that more educated, wealthy or younger people were more likely to vote remain.
Lesser educated, less wealthy and older people were more likely to vote leave.
Lesser educated and stupid/idiot are sometimes used synonymously .
Cases like you were referring to don't help with the stereotyping.
Of course there were some rich , educated young people also voting to leave.
Also areas with higher numbers of immigrants tended to vote leave

Thank goodness Brexit didn't affect Game of Thrones

So, it starts. Junckers wants the UK out asap. There will be a meeting with the Brits on Tuesday, then without the Brits on Wednesday when the EU powers decide how to proceed. Apparently, they want to make the exit painful enough so that other countries even thinking about it will hesitate.
If only the UK had a leader strong enough to turn round and say that it's not in the best interests of the UK to leave the EU. The whole sorry episode is one of people who thought they would just make a point about the EU- and too many of them did.
Cured me of homesickness. I am sickened by it all, what a horrible stupid waste. Europe will re-group and go on. The UK will be on the sidelines. Britain is not like Norway or Switzerland, it is deeply in debt and has squandered it's natural reserves. Unlike Norway.....

The people lead and I am quite impressed.
If Britain is in debt as you say...The Brexit vote was a reform vote. The people are ready for reform, but is the political establishment?

Debt/GDP ration is 89.2 % , admittedly after WW2 it was over 200%. 10 years ago it was only 40%. Compare to Norway which is currently at 31%.

There seems to be an assumption that the EU will go on as a sturdy association without the UK, much to the UK's discomfiture. However, trouble may be brewing on the Continent, with demands for referendums already arising in France, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic and Denmark, given the UK's vote.
Polls show support for a referendum range from 58% in Italy, 53% in France and the Netherlands, 40% in Austria, and even 30% in Germany. https://www.rt.com/viral/348039-brex...rendum-domino/
Germany's pushing to negotiate Turkey into the bloc is not calculated to help the situation. The EU may be much less stable than previously thought and may be increasingly viewed now as a failed experiment. If the US, under a new President (read Trump), moves swiftly to negotiate a free trade agreement with the UK, the movement for breakup of the EU may accelerate.
As an aside, one wonders what Scotland will do if, after it burns its bridges with the UK, it then finds the EU breaking up and oil prices not recovering. There will be little sympathy for its plight south of the Tweed River.

Re: Consequences of the UK leaving Europe
UK is 5th biggest economy in the world but apparently all that trade, that was mostly imports to the tune of trillions of pounds, is gonna dry because of Brexit up? Er, I don't think so somehow. The rest of the world, especially Europe, will be queuing round the block to sort out a new trade deal and if they're not, more fool them
As for downgrading of credit, just more hyperbole and scaremongering. I seem to remember them or another credit rating agency threatening to do this before and perhaps a number of times post crash and throughout austerity. Don't think it happened even once and if did, did the world come to an end in the UK? No, not even close

7th largest in terms of GDP in 2014 , Countries Compared by Economy > GDP. International Statistics at NationMaster.com. If you have to pay more interest, thats what you have to do if you have bad credit.
It was declared today, the UK is now officially 6th largest, France has just taken 5th place
We were around the 5th largest in terms of debt per capita Countries Compared by Economy > Debt > External, % of GDP. International Statistics at NationMaster.com
