What is your favorite evening beverage?

While I used to prefer an ale or two, I have moved on to darker red wines.

When it was ale I always preferred the hoppier ales, yes an American trait.

Aside from my preferred local varieties no one has heard of, a west coast ale called 'arrogant bastard' hit the spot. Or if you were a bit more bold there is 'double arrogant bastard, both from Stone Brewing Company out of California.

I like an Oil Can of Fosters. Having said that, Stone Brewing does have some excellent adult beverages.

Trader Joes does a decent Boatswain IPA that I have taken a fancy to.

I drink beer only occasionally. I don't like most US beers (either too bland, too sweet, or adulterated with fruit, herbs and other extraneities.) However I like some IPAs, two good ones I've drunk in the recent past are Fiddlehead IPA from VT and Ipswich IPA from Ipswich, MA. When in the UK I'm happy drinking bitter, for instance Youngs Ordinary, but many others.

Every evening I drink three glasses of wine. In the summer I'm fine with white or a rose (e-acute that should be). But generally I drink red wine. A grand vin de Bordeaux, a simple French red table wine, or a bog standard cheap chianti is fine. I don't drink American, Chilean, South African, Australian etc. In my experience, they are all too fruity and full bodied.

I'll drink wine with a meal, but I'm not a huge fan, mostly because I like to drink some volume, and swilling water between sips of wine is pointless when, ..... I love a good beer. I used to mostly drink Pilsner Urqell at home, or Sam Adams Boston Lager, but the range of craft beers has gone bananas in recent years. I keep on trying different ones, but when there are 120 breweries in NC, and apparently 3,000 nationwide, there are certainly plenty of choices, but it has to be water/malt/ yeast/ hops, no fruit or other cräp thank you very much! In the warmer weather I prefer IPAs, in the winter a dark ale or porter.

I enjoy a little single malt whisky too, but mostly in the winter.

Beer or white wine for me. A couple of weeks ago my neighbor and I discovered that Costco (through their Kirkland brand) actually do a rather nice selection of craft beers, pack of 24. I haven't seen him since though?

White wine I prefer Sauvignon Plonk, even better if it's Marlborough (NZ). Occasionally a White Zinfandel but I've only seen two manufacturers of such and both only ok-ish.

I had an 8-flight in BJ's brewhouse in Carlsbad CA the other day. Half of those were pleasantly drinkable; an Irish(ish) red called Jeremiah was good enough to buy a bottle to take back to the hotel.

Old Fashioneds with rye, or otherwise Buleit bourbon or any halfway decent or better rye with ice, club, or neat. I'll sometimes make martinis whilst cooking, too. For beers, I usually go for Anchor Steam or Prohibition in general, North Coast's Red Seal Ale for the winter, and Sierra Nevada's Summerfest lager in the summer. Long days or late nights of working are often accompanied with Tecate, as well as any other time when cheap beer seems like the best option.

Ales and porters mostly...though I've gotten into home brewing and have been brewing all kinds of small batches of different beers lately.

If I'm buying, lately, it's been Goose Island range of stuff....though also Shocktop and Framingham, because they aren't to bad and they're cheap and I need the bottles and it's much cheaper than buying empties. Had to do a few Grosches for those bottles too as they were much cheaper than buying the flip top bottles.

Good old fashioned Gin & Tonic, and if not that, a glass of Shiraz or Merlot with my dinner.

I'll drink a beer, or a cider, or wine, or scotch. As long as it's quality! For beer, wine and scotch it's pretty hard not to find quality but cider is different and I only buy from one local cider producer.

Ah yes, +1.

I happened past a Bevmo today (ok, I was enroute somewhere and looked up the nearest one) and they had a couple of English bottled ciders that I hadn't seen before. We'll see how they go, though I suspect "apple based, hyper carbonated" rather than cider pressed from apples (ok, I was spoilt living in the West Country in the UK).

Yesterday it was a 12 year old Glen Livet, today it was a couple of glasses of Merlot and a couple of glasses of Margarita's and a glass of sparkling wine. Preferred beer is Innes and Gunn, available in Total Wine, or a nice Heffeweissen.

Fat Lip or Big Sur, a couple of yummy amber ales from English Ales, the local brew pub that's handily just down the road.

I drink red and white wines with primarily Merlot for red and dry white wines. I'm not crazy about beer especially the lighter beers but when I want a beer, I walk one block to Gordon Biersch and have a couple of Märzen beers with a meal. Although German type beers aren't supposed to be served very cold, Gordon Biersch serves them on draft very cold in big glasses and they are good on a warm afternoon sitting out in their patio.

I've tried craft beers and never found a single one I liked.

Why do you swirl water with wine? If I can't put away a bottle of wine when I want to drink wine with a meal, my time is wasted. I'm not the type that likes one glass of wine with a meal so it is either all or nothing.
