Chlorinated tap water

Re: Chlorinated tap water
Most bottled water is bottled with city water. If they use spring water they have go through much the same processes that cities have to go through to kill any bacteria and that process is much more expensive and then they still send it through filters just like city water to try to get rid of any chlorine in the water (smell is caused by a buildup of chlorine gas) and any possible impurities.
I suspect most of the chlorine smell is caused by where you reside on the city water line. If you are at the end of the line, there isn't much circulation and the water remains in one spot for long periods of time building up chlorine gas but further up the line water is flowing constantly.

Our water is heavily cholorinated...if I fill the bath the water is blue and smells of bleach. Not only does it not taste nice...it also leaves a scum on the top of tea or coffee. I have a water filter fitted to the kitchen tap...problem solved as far as drinking water is concerned.

You can remove nearly all of the smell of chlorine from tap water by just pouring some in a jug and leaving it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Even the fridge part isn't really necessary, but cold water does taste nicer for some reason. I think that 90% of the people who say they prefer the filtered water really only prefer it because it has had time for the chlorine to evaporate out while it sat in the jug.

For sulphur removal if you have well you can get a lttle gubbins which is connected to the pump switch and when the pump works will drop a chlorine pellet down the well . Same thing for iron. For iron we run the water water through 4 filters into large tanks where it is chlorinated and is the then runs through 2 more filters. Manganese is a pain to remove we do not use that well. We sit on a massive iron vein, we can get 50 gallons per minute at 100ft but full of iron. It chokes the pumps and well pipes like choloesterol. We get two years from a pump.

Occasionally our water smells of chlorine, but our main problem is hard water - lots of limestone in our area so lots of calcium. Its so bad, my OH's tea would have small bits floating in it where it wouldn't dissolve (really grossed him out). For about the past year and a half we've been using a ZeroWater filter. It's better than the Pur or Brita filters (and much pricier too). We swear by it, and all our drinking water comes from it. Check it out..

When I was a kid I grew up in the rural areas of Northern Minnesota and everyone had wells with the water table very high. I never tasted such good cold water even though it had a very high iron content.
The water table was so high that when you traveled the back roads you would see pipes coming out of a little hill along the side of the roads with cold water running out of the pipe (the counties placed them in areas where there were springs so that people could stop and get a drink of cold water).

No idea! It's quite unlike anything I've ever smelt or tasted before or since. It's the same all over the city, Disney parks etc. And I've never had it anywhere else in the US.

Routine maintenance to the DC water supply sees a two month period when they switch to chlorine to clean the pipes of bacteria following after the winter snows have melted. Should end in early May.
