"Official Check" is a term that is often used to refer to cashier's checks and teller's checks, both of which are defined in both the Uniform Commercial Code and in Regulation CC, but the term "official check" has no legal definition.

I actually had a check made out to me today, made out to my name, i took it to the payors bank to get changed (Wells Fargo) i had to supply 2 forms of ID, Drivers licence and Work Authorisation and then rubber stamp my right thumb print on the front of the check, check cashed and no charge :thumbsup:

That is usually, but not necessarily, the case, that the bank the cheque is drawn on will cash it to the payee (with adequate ID) for no charge, though a few banks, I hear, do levy a fee of a few dollars. :sneaky:
