yob culture hasn't just suddenly become upon us.

it's been around for ages.

you just hear about it more now because all the cable news channels has to fill the air time with something.

We got accosted by one last night - We live in village outside Doncaster and my hubby said that even in Downtown Hamilton, ON that crap would not happen.

She was screaming in the street- a street she was visiting someone on (our friends across the road). She was not even our neighbour. She was illegally parked and when we parked correctly (in front of our house) she came out and started screaming at us- told us to move the car it was blocking the oncoming cars. Calling us all kinds of names etc. We had our kids with us as well. She said she had to park illegally because she had left her kid in the car while she was visiting. The kid had been locked in the car for a least an hour!! (her words) and until we came home she had not had to worry about traffic!! ???? So we moved our car until she left - for simplicity sake. Which was five minutes later.

teddyboys
punks
mods
rockers

every generation has them.

Did you ever go for a saturday night out in Salford / St Helens / Warrington / Wigan (any working class town) in the 80's?

couldn't move for people getting the sh1t kicked outta them.

whilst I agree that there is a yob culture. I think it has always existed.

I'm getting the impression, though, that previous generations all grew out of the relevant yob phase of their time, but chavs seem to 'stay' chavs for much longer, if not permanently.

Yes, I agree, last time I went back to England I saw chav families. Mum, Dad and several kids all dressed very similar. The worst thing was the foul language used by the parents in front of their kids. I grew up during the 70's and 80's and I can honestly say I never heard any grown ups using four letter words. I also never swear in front of my children apart from the odd bloody or sod.

I agree. I dont understand the adults that complain about the kids that swear and have no respect, then you see them acting the same way!! I dont want my kids like that and I wont lower myself to that either. Not that Im perfect but But I do have morals! It all starts in the home ;)

Talking about foul language used by the parents in front of their kids, I have seen rather a lot of that in the USA too. Only the other night in Wallyworld a Dad told his kid about 6 years old he was an "f"ing idiot for knocking a bottle of water of the shelf. Kids learn a lot from parents.

Have to say I don't think I have ever heard an adult in the US use that kind of language (I mean in a normal setting; of course adults curse on TV and radio, etc.). In the UK I hear f'ing and b'ing a lot from adults.

Guess its the line of work I'm in (collecting bad cheques), So I get get a lot of low life coming in to the office and I get lots of adults using that language around their kids. ( here in sunny Florida) It's a shame. It's no surprise the kids start talking like that, its what they learn.
