The biggest thing that seems to be going on right now is that the radicals have succeeded in getting out their message via the internet, and as we all know, that is a hard one to control.
On some specific items, do you believe web sites that openly advocate violence should be blocked? Should a church/mosque leader be stopped if he/she is found to be advocating violence (we know this does happen in London Mosques, for example). This is not just against Muslims; here's an article about a Christian Pastor being arrested for preaching against homosexuals. I support this and would like to see it applied to Muslims advocating the suppression of women's rights.
Not that these steps will work, see how the Chinese effort to control Christianity has driven somewhere between 75 and 200 million Christians into underground churches.

No. You are witnessing the recession of American power and influence in the world. Superpowers generally collapse from within - a lack of will. Our President has sent out the equivalent of the Rescript of Honorius (which may not actually have applied to Britain), wherein Honorius replied to a request for military assistance with the response that the locals must make provision for their own defence. If Obama's policies are followed by his successor, the die will have been cast and the world is on its own for better or worse.

As in, the usual standard of political cartoons is just drawing hairy balls on <public figure>? Hmmm. Lucky none of this involves dealing with anyone who may have different cultural sensibilities...
I am interested to know how this all played pre-attack - how much/what kind of support did Charlie Hedbo enjoy? Did anyone even know/care? From what I've read, it has been around a long time, but may have taken a turn for the anti-Islam side since 9/11.

Nothing was sacred with Charlie Hebdo. The English were good targets and were fairly amusing cartoons. Very much a french institution, they established "Le Quotidien" for kids as well, funny newsy stories told for youngsters. Like I said before, the news interviewers in France were fairly useless when it came to interrogating the politicians (I really missed Radio 4) so Charlie Hebdo was a good resource in giving people a different way of looking at things.

All in all, I like George, but being an MP for Bradford does bring with it certain requirements. Since the split with the SWP, Respect is partly a one man party, and has gone after the Muslim vote at the cost of traditional left values.

So are there now conspiracy theories that suggest this was a staged event by the magazine itself to boost readership, somewhat like the old 'Springtime For Hitler' story ... or maybe what Sony did to boost viewership of 'The Interview'
