It's the southern style of frying. You take the piece of chicken and dip it in batter (often a buttermilk based batter) and deep fry it. But instead of "chicken fried chicken" it's "chicken fried steak".

Dammit now I want fried chicken. For a Phoenix recommendation, I would go with LoLo's Chicken and Waffles. Nice catfish there too.

Oh thanks for clearing up my confusion, i haven't tried it but now i want to. Hows it typically served? Can you have it in a bun with mayo? or is it served with vegetables etc?

I've had it in a bap...but usually, it's served with white gravy, biscuits and a side, usually mashed spuds, green beans, baked beans, grits or collard greens.

Well that's how it was usually offered in the various places I tried it.

I suppose the nearest place to me that does it is Crackerbarrel, but our local one isn't that local and it wasn't nearly as nice as the one we tried in PA...but it is cheap and quick.

From what i can gather they beat the crap out of the chicken so its flat like a steak and maybe because they use a steak hammer to do that.

I could easily be wrong

When eating out: lightly basted, just to see if they know what it means. Some do, some don't.

It is chicken fried in the style of fried chicken, as opposed to chicken fried steak which is steak fried in the style of fried chicken.

I like my cackleberries fried and then inserted into a sandwich with bacon.

Must ask steveq to get all the ingredients for the above on his way back from work. Mmmm!

Colonel Sanders had already used that abbreviation for his aerosol propelant business.
