I have kept my faith in the (Indian) JLR brand. I have an '09 XF Supercharged that has only needed brakes and a coolant expansion tank in the last 3 years and a Range Rover Sport. The RR Sport is the sister/brother to the LR3 and has been relatively pain free. I had to fix the heater core (backflush and white vinegar to get it unclogged) and also some other routine maintenance, but the car is an 06 with 128K miles and still goes, stops and looks sharp. I believe that either the RR Sport or the full-sized RR is the one to get, assuming you can live with ~10MPG around town on the AJ8 V8.

Where abouts are you?

White's, in Framingham, MA specialise ain restoring Defenders and Disco's and range from not overly expensive to eye wateringly so. There's also a chap up in VT and another in ME, that do a bunch up and ship them around the country.

A friend of mine bought one up in NC and drove it back.

They don't do so well on the coast though.
