"The tattooed eyebrows are only light and can be used as a reminder for her on how to pluck properly."

You're supposed to pluck your eyebrows? Nobody ever told me that

There is no doc doing the botox!

When doctors give Botox, they are still responsible to the same standards of care as with any other treatment; but when dentists, beauticians, hairdressers etc. give botox (which they can now without a doctor's involvement), there is no standard of care or professional responsibility.

Anyone can do a Botox course and inject it wherever they want and, unless they are a doctor, there's no risk of being sued for negligence or malpractice (that's why salons and dentists can undercut the plastic surgeons financially for those treatments - the plastic surgeon needs to pay for malpractice insurance whereas the others don't).

Dumb laws!

I don't normally read this paper but saw this article on the tube. I find it shocking and very saddening.

Your thoughts?

I remember almost running my car off the road listening to a conversation between some of my daughter's new school friends. It was about 6 months after we moved here...the girls were 11/12 years old. They were having a conversation about how often they went to the spa to have their legs and eyebrows waxed.

I'm not sure this is "legal". If botox is a toxin, then I would imagine it is totally illegal to inject a child. If an adult is stupid enough to want to do it to themselves, that is one thing, but a minor child is not in a position to make that choice for herself. I would think that Child Protective Services could act, if they could be bothered.

Botox is the most lethal toxin known to man. Having said that, the doses involved in cosmetic Botox injections are tiny. Also, Botox is used on kids all the time in medical practice (e.g. treating spasticity in cerebral palsy patients to allow kids more limb movement) so its use in kids is well documented as being safe and effective.

While I'm certainly not supporting this use in kids, from an objective point of view it could be argued that has been shown to be a safe drug in kids, so the mother isn't putting the child at excessive risk and Child Protective Services probably wouldn't have grounds to get involved.

Just a point about the photos in the article - never mark skin with a magic marker and then put a needle though the mark - you risk taking the ink under the skin surface & leaving permanent black tattoos!

Another mom who had admitted to injecting her daughter with botox is being investigated by authorities in California.

I don't usually watch Fox news but it was on in the gym this morning.

Ha! Awesome.

Btw, I love the "I don't usually read this paper, but..." caveat. Sure you do,
