no no no - he just has to wear 6 pairs of jean, 8 pairs of socks, 7 t-shirts, 5 sets of underpants and three jumpers to reduce the suitcase weight and bobs your moderator!

Yeah I know.

Whenever we are near Cincinnati (not often) we pop in at Jungle Jim's - $1.50 a can there and obviously no shipping charge.

Not sure when it was changed might well have been before he booked, as it was booked just a few weeks ago, and we just didn't notice.

They want 50 euros for the second bag. It's $50 dollars going back but at least it will be full so it isn't so bad. Coming over he will put one suitcase inside the other.

Looks like they changed the policy (probably to match Delta's since they own Northwest and is in the process of merging it into Delta.) in June for tickets booked on or after July 16th for travel on or after August 4.

Atleast they still give 1 bag free.

Good job ryanair don't fly this far - their first baggage charge is going up to £30! I've paid way less than that for the entire flight in the past. Guess those days are over stuck with american airlines now...

You got it! Okay, maybe that that extreme, but he should wear his heaviest shoes, clothes, etc. It makes a BIG difference!

We just flew with that requirement on Delta. Our luggage weighed 35 lbs. going over, but close to the limit coming back. That darn Thornton's toffee is heavy!

I've been meaning to ask if you brought back any British goodies - anything else besides the toffees?

Hmmm ... food you mean? Not a lot, actually. My husband bought two bottles of whisky that can't be bought in the US. We did buy Kendal Mintcake for the family. Some British tourists told my Dad at the visitor's center where he works that we screwed up by not buying Edinburgh's ?castle? candy? I remember seeing it - it resembled sidewalk chalk.

I did pick up scone mix, marmalade and Heinz beans (not to be eaten together!) from the British section in the grocery store here though.

We always buy Christmas gifts for the family when we travel, as you can pick up different things. My mother wanted an ivory wool sweater (I'm sure you know the kind I'm referring to, though I associate them more with Ireland). We picked up some books on the Stewarts and MacIntoshes. My husband's family is getting some Celtic gear. I always put Christmas ornaments in stockings too - so I picked up a thistle ornament for my Mom and a bagpipe ornament for my dad.

My BIL is getting whisky flavored condoms. Good grief.

That's Edinburgh rock. Most souvenir rock (like Blackpool or Brighton) is like hard boiled candy. Edinburgh rock is a different thing all together - does look like chalk. It's years since I've eaten any, but I think it pretty much just tastes of sugar and has a softer consistency - bit like chalk!

Just seen Elfman's reply - yes, nothing to rave about!

Oh the US airlines are learning the baggage fee thing, and ever so they are increasing it, depending on airline its 15+ for the first bag and more for # 2.

Southwest is about the only major US airline not charging.

This is for domestic flights however.
