Re: Birthright Citizenship and Trump
Some would argue the same about reaching consensus on gun control and abortion. Unfortunately, it doesn't work out like that. The US constitution has its benefits, but it certainly has its disadvantages too in trying to come up with rational public policy.

Well not so much you, as what you and the other person were saying. Why do you just accept that this particular form of immigration is a bad thing? You don't even question that assumption. Your points are simply re-assertions of the line that has been fed to us that this way of gaining citizenship is somehow "bad", even though nobody on this thread or the other has been able to provide any factual example of what these negative effects of less than 1% of the population actually are. We are all just supposed to be angry that it's happening. There is way too much baseless, free-floating anger in the national discussion at the moment.

Ok, tell us some factual examples of positive effects of illegal immigration.

Why do you think actual illegal immigration, in large numbers, has continued to happen for decades? Do you really think the country couldn't stop it if they wanted to?

I thought everyone understood the +/- effects of illegal & free border immigration for an economy and country in this day and age.
This is quite good in a way . However the thread title is about birthright citizenship (USA) per the 14th amendment. One would suppose if this could be altered by whatever means to state that at least one parent should be a USC & that the current USC's born to non USC parents would have their rights grandfathered , it would have really little to no impact on the country or its citizens as a whole.
Trump once again evoked the illegal immigrant scaremonger tactic for the upcoming US primaries. Rather than be outraged by said 'caravans', perhaps folks should be outraged by foreign polices & backing that leads to these desperate mass migrations or towards those that have benefited from employing the illegal immigrants or 'seasonal' workers which whilst not being 'illegal' is actually not giving jobs to USCs .

Only problem I see is that there is a blizzard out there.

Our US house race, the Democratic contender might have had a chance of unseating the Republican incumbent - except there is a third candidate, Green Party, who'll probably keep the incumbent safe. Then there's our Dear Leader, Andrew Cuomo, who Five Thirty-Eight have as 95% chance of winning. Several friends of mine are promising to vote for minor candidates for governor, just to "send a message," but I'm voting for him - he's a mean bastard, but he's OUR mean bastard.

The depredations and violence and there which the US has either instigated or supported make for sorry reading, and the inhabitants of those countries have not forgotten. We could have done better. We still can. We could the those countries' biggest friend, and the migration would slow to a trickle. But I fear we won't. The political value of illegal immigration and the economic value of their labour makes this country salivate too much to make it stop.
But this thread is about the tiny number of people who enter through the baby route. Really, do we not have bigger issues to worry about?

Your comment - to which Lion responded - was about sponsorship of parents. Whatever you might think about that, those are not illegal immigrants. And nor are people who ask for refugee status.

Begs the question who caused it before?
