A poignant saying..but somehow I always find that I measure up short in what I could have made my dogs life. Longer walks, more trips to the beach, more fetch less computer time. Oh well I did all right but could have done better.

RIP, Maxi. Sincere sympathy to you, Beaverstate. As has been said in this thread, losing a beloved companion never gets any easier -- if I was an actress and had to get ready for a crying scene, all I would have to do is remember the beautiful dogs who have gone before. But despite the pain of loss, our lives would be so incomplete without our pets -- they all give us so much more than we could ever repay to them.

I think we all do this to ourselves . Be it our loved pets or our loved people.

I'm sure you'll have done just fine with the right balance.

Sorry to hear of your dogs passing. They really become family. Ive lost a lot over my lifetime (grew up always having 4 or 5 dogs and same number of cats) and its always hard when one passes.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You give them the best life you can and nobody appreciates the attention like a dog does. Our rats only live 2 and a bit years so been through it literally dozens of times. The time will come when you can look back and smile at the memories without feeling such sadness.
