Re: Beer and Travels!
Out of interest what routes would people take with a 2,500 mile allowance starting in Iowa and ending in Denver??

FWIW visiting Yellowstone AND the Grand Canyon takes over 2,700 miles.

Or…. you could drive straight Denver because, no matter what, you have to get across some rather dull terrain. It's about 800 miles/10-11 hours depending where you're coming from in Iowa. Then take a round trip from Denver with the rest of your allowance.
Or… drive via the Black Hills to Denver, about 1050 miles and then do a CO road trip with the rest of your allowance. Everything west and south-west of Denver is worth exploring.

Different states have different laws regarding labeling ad alcohol content. Its possible you could get a slap on the wrist for transporting something that is above the max alcohol percentage for the state, or similar things. Sone states have very low levels, and some like Colorado don't.

Be sure to save your empties and cash them in while you are in states that have the bottle deposit.

Re: Beer and Travels!
You can't deposit MA bottles in ME and somehow they know. A lot of the bottles have a red stripe either the top or bottom of the label in MA which is a no for ME. Try it in bulk and it's a fine-able offence apparently.
Then again, MA makes it a major ballache to redeem bottles anyway and you can't do water/wine/liquor bottles here unlike other states.

Just watch out for state specific labels.

ETA: A "Tripadvisor" page states that there is only ONE state between Michigan and the west coast that has a deposit law, and that state is Iowa, so to take advantage of that the OP would have to hit the bottle pretty quickly as they will likely be leaving Iowa within a couple of hours, or so, of setting out on the road.

Re: Beer and Travels!
Seems as good as anywhere to put this.
I just had my best pint in about 10 years. A pint of mild, its about 10 years since my last pint of mild.
The eight I have been in the USA and at least two while I lived in the UK, Mild went so out of fashion, that even when I found some place that served it, there was such a high chance that it was a bad pint (unsold barrel just sitting there unchanged) that I just stopped asking.
Anyway Machine House Mild. A small brewery run by an Englishman in Gerogetown, Seattle. Great stuff.
Machine House Brewery | Traditional English Style Ales | Seattle, WA
"Our goal is to deliver the authentic session beer experience to Seattle, meaning particularly drinkable ales with moderate levels of alcohol and bitterness." That might please tonrob, I know he complains about the lack of such beers here.
