Your analogy is really crap, completely useless and embarrassing really. Sending a kid to school with a contagious bug? seriously.

In her case it's in the genes...I have always had a problem with allergies...hay fever from being very young...asthma...allergic reactions to some substances and meds. That seems to have been handed down from my father.

Perhaps if you experienced your beautiful young daughter rolling on the ground because her whole body is swollen, sore and itchy you would be a little more understanding.
How about a realistic attitude? I have never ever heard of a school child passing away at school because of a peanut. I've heard of mums in SUVs backing up and running over kids.

If you have a rare condition then deal with it (like many others do), don't turn around and demand that everyone else go without because that is selfish.

Do you not think this is one reason people add back up camera to their vehicles

Its the reason that these cameras are going to be mandatory.

The death rate from reversing over people and nut allergy deaths are comparable.

Wrap your kids in cotton wool springs to mind.

3 deaths is all you came up with? I wouldn't consider a university student as a school child either, but if you are desperate for links
You know how many more kids die of other causes right? and really how much of an over reaction the whole peanut thing is?
Can you imagine being told years ago that a kid would be in serious trouble and his/her family facing legal action because they took a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich in for a school lunch? Thats how ridiculous this is.

People should eat a balanced diet and not fear food like many mums do during pregnancy. Stop listening to the food scare stories and your kids may stand a better chance of growing up normal.

I am not demanding anything...but you calling someone else selfish is hilarious.

We have tried. She has been to see many specialists in the UK and US...we have tried Chinese medicine, acupuncture and herbal remedies. No one is able to pinpoint what causes her allergies. Skin testing does not work because her skin in dermagraphic. She has taken daily meds since she was 8...she is now 29. Of course as she got older she's learned to recognize the first signs of a reaction.

Thank you for your advice on raising my children.
However my toddler eats a perfectly normal diet for his age including liking salad, which is usual for a child at that age. If the fact that is not "normal" then sorry, but its your problem.
Yes my pregnant wife does watch what she eats, as she does not see the reason to put our unborn child at risk by eating such things as unpasteurized soft cheese.
At the preschool that my toddler goes to there is a child with a severe nut allergy. So even though my son enjoys PB & J sandwiches, we do not put any peanut products in his lunch pack out of our concern for the other child.
Kids share things even when they are told should not, and so why even put the other child at risk?

Its not just about you dear. The anti allergy crowd are are demanding that allergies be included as a disability , wanting extra tax payer money and over the top efforts in school to accommodate for them. Its not a real disability though is it? Its a rare condition like many others, risk is minimal. Yes everyone has a right to an education but at what cost?

Then don't advise me, let me decide what my child can take for school lunch? Which in the past has always been the case. And I'll remind you we are talking food here and not contagious diseases.

I suspect you don't understand the extent of the problem. There may only be a handful of children that die from peanut allergies each year but if we have a moderator on BE that has a child that has serious peanut allergies, then the number is likely quite large where only a few die but many live in misery or fear.

I don't have a problem with the minor inconvenience to try to live with people with peanut allergies any more than I have a problem with not smoking around people because it may bother them but it's not going to kill them.

Michael is right, the number of people with peanut allergies is much larger than many people realise, JG is not the only regular poster on BE who has a child with a peanut allergy.
