This isn't a special offer though, is it? It just looks like their normal page that shows the lowest possible fare to various destinations.

I think they usually have a proper sale in January.

Don't they have to advertise the price including tax like in the UK?

Frustrating to see what a drastic impact the Olympics are going to have on next summer's transatlantic fares.

We've already run into that problem, we are going over for a visit June 8 - 23rd and couldn't use our airmiles as most of Alaska Airlines codeshare partners including BA have that time blacked out.

I managed to squeak in a BA F redemption the other day from YVR-LHR on 11th July - although I noticed it was one of the only dates it was available for the whole summer.

Would you really want to travel through London, when the Olympics are going on?

It's already having a knock on effect in terms of fares to other European airports where you can plausibly fly to London easily and cheaply from.

And so it should. The Olympics are a big event and it's the laws of supply and demand at work. But I do have some sympathy for people who might need to travel for other reasons around that time. It's obviously a difficult situation for them.

It could be "cheap" to fly out of the UK around the time of the Olympics - may be good time for relatives to visit the US

Not so sure. The Olympics will likely put a capacity strain on trans-Atlantic travel throughout the summer (those who ordinaruily would have chosen to travel during the Olympics spread their travel through other dates) so I would imagine that fares would rise throughout the Summer.

Apparently that's exactly what's happened at prior big events such as WC '10 and '06. There was an article in The Economist about this a few weeks ago. Tourism actually has reduced during and immediately around many big events, but travel to the host country has increased outside that window. But suppliers of transportation and hotels jack their prices up for the event in the expectation of increased demand. They've often been disappointed. Apparently this effect was particularly pronounced at the South African WC '10.

Just saw on Flyertalk that there's an ex-UK sale starting this Thursday morning for all cabins.

We ended up using airmiles from Anchorage to Boston, then paid $700 each to Edinburgh with Aer Lingus. It was the only way we could use airmiles to cover some of the cost.
We spoke with the airlines direct and they said that some have blocked out most of June all of July and into August because of the Olympics.
