Apple iPod 2001-2022
Apple discontinued the iPod touch today, the last of the iPod line. Many hadn't thought about or even knew Apple was still making them for a long time. It sure changed Apple's economic trajectory.

I can still remember the excitement of buying my first click wheel iPod years ago. The iPod died when the click wheel (classic they called it didn’t they?) stopped production as far as I’m concerned.

I still have two working antique iPods.
# 1 … version 1.2 pc …model mc695 … contains 1,600 songs
# 2 …. version 1.0.3 pc …. Model md477qb …. Contains 1,400 songs
i use them everyday while walking and have never had any issues with either of them in probably well over 10 years !
No software updates… just don’t need them and that probably helps !

Man - this news got me thinking back on how fast this technology went. I'm only in my 30's, but I honestly feel like we went from walkmans to MP3's, to infrared and bluetooth sharing music, to streaming pretty fast. And it's scary to think of!

Not unlike movie watching - VHS to DVD to Bluray to streaming. I moved recently, and packed up two huge boxes of music CDs and movie DVDs. I now don't even have a CD player or DVD/Bluray player in my home! (I do have a USB-connected Bluray/DVD/CD reader that I can hook up to my laptop if absolutely needed, but nothing connected to a sound or video system).

Re: Apple iPod 2001-2022
I was an early subscriber to Spotify when it first became available. I remember my friends being confused by streaming: "what do you mean, you don't own the music?" or "what if they remove the album from the platform?" or "if you download and store the music, what happens if you stop paying? you lose all the music? I don't think I could deal with that..." Et cetera. It was a mindset shift from the days of iTunes/iPod "buy album, download and store album". I tried to explain infinite playlisting, instant access to all new releases and the comprehensive catalog but people were just stuck on "ownership" of music. Now everyone streams everything and devices like the iPod are largely irrelevant.
