ask your questions - you dont need to work for one to know the answer - I rent a lot so know a bit, and it sounds like Ray knows the dodgy stuff

well .... no scams really, just want the cheapest prices and those that include the right insurance.

what exactly is CDW? what is CDW with no excess? we rented last year but was paid by the company so didnt see the policy, had that huge smash and all was covered.

seems as if all the rentals I get on the internet are cheap cheap but come with no insurance and then when you start adding insurance I dont know what means what and the cost is stupid!

soooooooooo advice is on best prices and what the heck translates as fully comp insurance (and any scams going !)

I think.......

fully comp
and fully comp with no deductible.
for damage to the rental car.

as you do not have any underlying US Insurance to fall back on
you'll need it, and you'll need to make sure you have plenty of liability insurance should you cause a smash.

The site that I use for good discounts is Breeze Net Motors. They provide online coupon codes for use on the rental sites.

Here are some other helpful links that explain coverage types and the rental process itself.

Coverage types

Rental Tips
http://www.bnm.com/tips.htm

Deals by Company (that's if you want to use a particular company to increase loyalty points)
http://www.bnm.com/coup.htm

Deals at Particular Airports (you might score a good deal because of your destination)
http://www.bnm.com/airports.htm

I hope this helps.:)

I just booked a Dodge Charger (or similar) from Dollar for $177 for 7 days. It was at Reagan National Airport, near DC.

I'm getting the "Cover My Ass" insurance package, which will add quite a bit to the price.

Jim.

I have Allstate Insurance on own car and I was told by Allstate that my car insurance policy would automatically cover any European car rental with the same coverage as my car.

I also called the different credit card companies that I had to find out if they cover the deductibles on car rentals in Europe and only AT&T Universal Card (Master Card) indicated that they did.

So you may want to check with your UK insurance company to see if rental cars in the US is covered.

Is it specifically written as thus in the policy?

You will need to cover your gas not cover your ass with a dodge charger. Those gas suckers are being offered to suckers as an upgrade because no one with any sense wants one, they are very very heavy thirsty cars.

At least you will know what to do if some kids ask you for a buck to look after your car after you park it eh?
