Two of my sisters have going to this one for some years now, (Palatka) and the one that isn't already down south is probably taxiing to the runway in Vancouver as I type this and on her way.

Contrary to the historic East - West migration of traditional Scots - Irish music, and that music evolving into American roots music, your friend and mine Steve Earle obviously struck a chord with the Irish.

Playing our bar this weekend, and no doubt the festival circuit this summer:

After issues preventing me getting to the Darrington Bluegrass festival, I have hopes of making it this year.
Bluegrass gets a mention in the Guardian.

I discovered bluegrass by pure accident on SiriusXM

Then wifey & I were at the Desert Botanical Gardens one December evening - they'd some light show thingy going. With bands of various flavors. There was a local bluegrass band playing - loved it - bought a couple CDs and everything! Even wifey's quite in to it.

Enjoy if you do get to see any live performances.

Maybe not quite as good as the more famous version by a more famous band, but not bad...

There is one in Darrington right in the mountains and some further East, in Washington "monsters dwell here" territory.
I'd like to know peoples experience, how was it? What kind of crowd go? My presuppositions are split between hippy folk types, and scary redneck types.
It's an older, more relaxed crowd...So you might be able to enjoy being around those people, even if you aren't one of them...

I personally hate the music

If you think I'm letting the bluegrass thread die you don't know me at all.
