Default Another Leisure Based Question

So, am in Southern California and its raining lots and lots. And I know I will get ZERO sympathy from you lot that live in the cold, BUT do things like leisure centres exist over here, ie flumes, wave machines, a bloody great swimming oasis where the kids can have a right splash about?

They're called 'water parks' here. Looks like a new one is opening in your 'hood in May. You can probably find one that's actually open with a little googling.

But aren't they normally outdoors - especially in CA?

No idea; I don't go to them. I'd rather be under water.

But googling 'water park' will net more local results than 'leisure centre'.

I'm in California and yes, it's raining here, the NERVE of it !! LOL

I have a Water Park, literally just down the road from me. BUT, it's out of season, believe it or not

It normally doesn't open up until just before the kids get out for the summer and then closes in October.

Our's is owned by KNOTTSBERRY and is called SOAK CITY, so, you could try looking that up on the Internet.

Water Park, Califorina is the other to try looking up. I think there is an indoor water park somewhere, between where I and you live, never been there and not sure of location.

You could see if the kids fancy Rock Climbing, they have a few of those and they are indoors or a Lazar Tag place also indoors ?

I'm in Pittsburgh and we don't have any indoor leisure centres.
I think there is one big 'Water park" but it is a 2+ hour drive away.

We have lots of private outdoor swimming clubs but they are only open in the summer, have long waiting lists and are expensive.

There are two indoor pools that I know of but they are just pools, no fun stuff and, again, you have to be a member and it's expensive.

My children used to swim every week back in the UK at our local sports centre and my youngest really misses it.

Have you checked out the County Parks? They usually operate the public swimming pools in a community: http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/par...ing_pools.html

Lightbulb Re: Another Leisure Based Question

Wisconsin Dells, in Wisconsin, has Noah's Ark Waterpark (Outdoor) which is huge.

Indoors you have the Kalahari and Great Wolf Lodge Hotels which have quite sizeable pools and wave machines etc.

Cedar Point, in Sandusky, Ohio, is another Massive Waterpark and Outdoor Amusement Park. The Kalahari Hotel, there, is supposed to be having an extension on their waterpark......supposedly to make it the "World's Largest."

Not that I know of. Most activities are organized, outdoors and based around sports, for obvious reasons in So Cal.
The closest thing would be a mall or a YMCA. Our local YMCA has a gym, swimming pool, rock wall climbing organized classes such as basketball, soccer etc. Malls have play areas, but it depends how old your kids are.
There are museums, skiing ( as you posted earlier) hiking trails, parks, piers, mountains and beaches amongst loads of other stuff. It probably rains here about 3 weeks a year total. So you kinda have to grin and bear it as far as I know but it's not much really.
