Working this close to Christmas sucks goat balls. Everyone has shut down mentally and nothing productive gets done. I'm not even sure if we'll get out early tomorrow, since it's only Christmas Eve Eve, so I may have to abuse my salary privileges if it gets to it.

5pm at the shops is bad enough at a normal time of the year but at least you're not going to be there on Christmas Eve. I've done the emergency last-minute food run on the way home from work on the 24th in years past and it is utter Bedlam.

I should have been able to leave early today but I let my young guy analyst leave so he could meet his girlfriend at the airport. Young love!

It was bedlam! It was raining and parking was horrendous. It took me much longer than I thought and then just to finish my day there was a train backed up blocking the crossing so it took me an extra 40 minutes to get home.

But...work is over until Wednesday and now I can enjoy my sausage rolls and start wrapping and cleaning and baking!

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! On to the good stuff. You have to make this a very Merry Christmas for your Elf in the Crib, SM.

Sis in Florida is desperate for rain. Push them clouds out over the Gulf and to Florida for her.

The little Elf is going to be so spoiled. I can't wait:lol:

Our rain is the fine misty kind. It has been constant all day. I'll try to send it your sister's way:nod:

See, now that was your first mistake. Never give up an early departure from work under any circumstances, except possibly some kind of cash incentive.

Now, what have you learned ... :p

Oh it wasn't done without me gaining from it. He has to work over the NY weekend and I get off 4 days again next weekend.

I have had to be really careful all year not being able to take more than 2 or 3 days off consecutively because neither of my 2 analysts were experienced or certified to run the Lab by themselves. Now it is all changing. Starting January 13th they will both have a years Lab experience, both are certified and both of them now have 4 hours of microbiology added on their transcripts. Finally I can make the most of my exempt position and take more time off.
I am so ready for this to happen.

We had the family over for Christmas Eve. The grandkids and their parents were finished by 8 pm. It was always a tradition once the girls married and left home that they spent the Eve with us, had Christmas morning with their kids at their home and they then went to the in-laws for Christmas Dinner.

Hubby and I don't buy gifts for under the tree for each other. He gave me the plane tickets for my NY visit in January and I bought him his gift which was delivered two weeks ago. It would have been too big for under the tree.

Glad she was more than willing to wait. Not so my children growing up nor my grandkids today. First presents and then a special Christmas breakfast is the norm.

We're doing this today as it's only a few blocks from our house and I'm intrigued to see what Americans think a traditional English Boxing Day entails...

Spoiler:
Turkey sandwiches, arguments over board games and dragging the kids out for an energetic walk in our case!

An English boxing day to me is being sat around all day watching soccer or another sport.

Which is what I'm doing now after being out to fill the propane tank for a nice steak.

Christmas fell on a Sunday this year. Many business offices are closed today so in essence if you are an office worker you might well have Boxing Day off.

Medium rare is for burgers. Rare steaks all the way - the rarer the better.

I grew up on well done steaks. My mother still likes it this way.

Suffice to say, when I was of the age to understand that steaks can be cooked to different levels I took over.

I know a local steak restaurant that includes a guide to cooking steaks/ what to expect when you order a steak - what each step from "rare" to "well done" means. "Medium-well" is described as "overcooked", and "Well done" is described as "basically ruined".

Underneath that guide the menu says that the restaurant will accept no responsibility for steaks cooked any more than "medium".

Why would you eat it uncooked with blood dripping from it? It can't possibly be healthy eating a dead animals blood.

Because it isn't blood. It's water and myoglobin, an iron-binding molecule found in muscle tissue.

One would eat a steak rare because it's just better.

Nope, I like mine medium rare. One kidlet tells the waiter, if it is still mooing, it is done.

A rare steak has the taste and texture of steak, not the taste of a cheap, overcooked beefburger and the texture of an old boot.

I'm sure a good chef, with a good cut of meat can make a medium-well done steak taste good, but it certainly isn't my preference.

A great many things. I like a nice bit of bread and butter, myself.

Only juices, though, no blood :p

Re: All I want for Christmas is..

I used to always have my steaks well done, but now, a well done steak has the texture of old leather. It's way to dry. That said, I need a medium steak. Anything less, it's going back. My missus has her steaks rare, my father in law has em virtually blue. I've lost count the amount of times my wife has cooked me a steak and I've had to chuck it back at her to give it another couple of minutes.
