Airline Seats & Fat Passengers

Look at what Airbus is proposing:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ose-space.html

I don't think that putting an obese passenger in a seat 2" wider isn't going to make that much difference tbh. They are still likely to spill over into their neighbour's (reduced size) seat...

Airlines need to enforce rules that require those who take up more then one seat to buy more then one seat, and governments if they dont allow airlines to do this need to realize airlines sell seats, if someone takes up more then one seat, they should be required to pay for it.

Not sure if they still do, but Jet Blue used to. I remember flying from BUF to JFK about 8 years ago and my sister asked for a seatbelt extender. The flight attendant was really kind about it but said that they don't carry them and if a passenger was unable to fit in one seatbelt they were required to buy a second seat and a seatbelt attachment would be used to allow it to fit across both.

I, and my company, pay good money for an airline seat, like everybody else.

Why should I sit in discomfort with some fat sweaty geeza one or both sides of me, oozing over the arm rests, for 2-5 hrs at a time?

I'm totally in favour of discrimination.

I know for some people they have a medical condition. That can be allowed for.

For everybody else...

STOP EATING THE ****ING DOUGHNUTS AND/OR DO SOME FRIGGING EXERCISE...

First off, airlines need to do something accommodate people who aren't 5'5" and 150lbs. I'm 5'10" and am not a petite body size and have always felt squashed into my seat, if the person in front puts their seat back, I'm screwed. My brother is 6'5" and never flies because he's in agony the entire time. My husband was recently reading an article about how seat size on airlines has actually shrunk over the past 20 years. It needs to get bigger, like it or not as a race we're getting wider and taller. It would be great if we all fit into the same size seats, but we don't, having to accommodate that shouldn't be this massive controversial thing that it seems to be.

The media and society at large needs to stop shaming people who do not fit into those seats. If you can't relate to the discomfort of being tall, fine, but if you can't relate to carrying a couple of extra lbs on you at some point in your lovely western life, you're either in the minority or a liar.

There's a difference between a bit large, tall or whatever and being a safety hazard because you're blocking the aisle, which is more what this is about, where everyone else is getting punished for smaller seats to accommodate, all to maintain seat numbers.

The Daily Fail have been rolling out that one picture of the obese dude blocking the aisle for a long time. Its the airlines fault for allowing him to fly in the first place imo.
Getting a row of a couple of extra wide seats or seats for people over 6' without it actually taking away from everyone elses seat space would be an idea, but they don't seem to be able to compute doing something like that, that would make sense.

I'm just under 6'1" and of medium build. I'm not a big guy but I'm not exactly small either and I have quite broad shoulders. I cannot sit in the middle seat without all 3 people being uncomfortable. For me it's shoulder width that's the issue. So bigger seats would be nice.

I have had a rather large guy next to me on a flight ask if he could put the armrest up so he could fit in the seat. I refused as he was essentially trying to take up some of my seat. The stewardess moved him...

The same thing happened to me last week on a flight from San Diego - the guy next to me asked if he could put the armrest up as I am just a wee thing and have plenty of room.. I told him to F...Off! He did laugh

Re: Airline Seats & Fat Passengers

When I see a tall person sitting in the middle seat or window seat - it kills me. All scrunched up - OMG - and they have to fly like that for the next 10 hrs.

Now regarding the fat passengers... speaking as a former fat person (she's always inside threatening to come back) - I get it. When I was really big I would literally lean over to the other side of whomever would sit next to me (I always paid more and got either the window or aisle seat). My point is I felt bad for the other passengers. I would NEVER think of asking someone to put the armrest up. And I completely agree with charging us... erm, them more for 2 seats. It's unsafe to be squished in there.

But I tell ya, if you need an incentive to lose weight - it's flying. Seats are soooo much more comfy when your body has space around the seat.

Now I'm hungry...

So you are/were the two-ton Tessie we passengers would glance at walking down the aisle and think "Oh no, please don't be the one sitting next to me!"...

That's me (was) luvvie!

Actually, on that note - would you guys rather sit next to a two-ton or a mum with a crying baby?

Me, two-ton - since my thighs are smaller and I don't take up the whole seat anymore.
