I just glanced at the decision. As for me, I am a firm believer in my rights as expressed in the first clause of the fourth amendment:

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects ..."

I do not consider the scope of the Amendment to be limited to search and seizure. As a law abiding citizen, I think that I have "the right ... to be secure in ...[my] person..."

There seems to be a fundamental brain difference between Americans and normal people on this issue.

Interestingly, California is one of only nine states where "open carry" is actually or effectively prohibited across all or most of the state. The nine states include many that are known to be restrictive of carry rights, including not only CA, and IL, MD, RI, but also SC and.... TX!

Because open carry is effectively prohibited in most of CA, and all "incorporated" municipalities in CA.

Hey...I'm American, hardly abnormal nor an anomaly
C'mon Sally

Ps Even the few posts in this thread reveal the obvious: normalcy isn't dictated by nationality

As written, the Bill of Rights outlined restrictions on federal authority. That has since largely been extended to incorporate similar restrictions on state authority.

The Bill of Rights doesn't protect individual citizens from each other. There is no amendment outlawing murder or assault or battery or robbery; those matters were left to the states.

Self defense may or may not be a good thing, but it sure as hell isn't in the Bill of Rights.

Open carry meaning people can just walk down the street with a gun strapped to their belt?

That's the one.

Makes them all feel very safe you know.

Same thing happened where I live/work. Now my office has silly little signs by the elevator with a pic of handgun crossed out - apparently you have to do this in order to stop people walking in with concealed weapons. I'm sure it will be very effective. I know I feel a lot safer.

Agreed
...and here I was all riled up earlier over the proposed TimeWarner/Comcast merger but on the scale of what's truly important ...this matters more

Yes, it is quite common for a state to have fewer restrictions on open carry than on concealed carry. In some sense a concealed carry permit is a permit to conceal a weapon not a permit to carry a weapon.

Denver has an open carry ban, unconstitutional but they seem to rely on no individual being so masochistic to go bankrupt through a multi decade process to legally challenge it.

Says a lot about so called rights.

A guy I walked past in Walmart a couple of weeks back was carrying a revolver on his hip, just out there.

First time for everything I guess.
