Right, going off to organize my work's July 4th parade participation in 104 degrees F. I'm just going outside, and I may be some time.

Be brave. Stiff upper lip etc. (what does that mean? can you have a floppy upper lip?).

I am doing NOTHING! We where going to go to the firework display last night, but it was just to crazy busy, couldn't be bothered finding somewhere to park. I was amused as to how obsessed New Yorkers are with fireworks displays, I guess with fireworks being illegal, the organised displays are hugely popular

We are going to Cooperstown tomorrow for a couple days though, so looking forward to that.

I somehow managed to ignore them, but seeing that my hormones are a bit haywire today....I just might unleash the beast.... and that will never do!
What you need to do is inform them that it was a British Civil War fought in a foreign country. Than ask them how many eventually signed the Declaration of Independence. Some may know it was 56. Then proceed to tell them only one was probably not born in Britain, or of British Heritage, and that was John Martin. I think he was from Finland.

Cool Re: 4th July events?

Currently sitting in the air-con watching the Wimbledon quarter final match between Andy Murray & David Ferrer (bit of a nail-biter and I'm not even much of a tennis fan).

Later we are going to our Aussie expat friends' house near Mountain Lakes, NJ and off with their family to a (rustic) lake club which they're members of for a swim, then a barbie back at their place. I guess we will see some fireworks either in their town or at our local high school this evening. Too hot and crowded to trek into NYC today.

Btw it is our 25th wedding anniversary today. My spouse is over from Switzerland and I woke up to a lovely surprise this morning.....he's booked us on a transatlantic crossing on the QM2, departing from Brooklyn on Friday this week and arriving in Southampton a week later. He's also arranged for us to renew our marriage vows on the ship. He's so romantic...

We will be going to Patriots Point to watch the fireworks later. I've not been awake long as I was out on a bar crawl for 3rd of July drinks.

Why thank you for that useful piece of information! I'm sure it will come in very handy. Most people are very nice, but there's always one drunken knob head who starts mouthing off. Only two weeks at a party I had the " We Americans won the II world war" discussion to deal with. I ended up leaving because I couldn't help but feel a little offended by it . I really need to brush up on my history in order to have some good ammunition to fire back!

Grilling and drinking beer. Hubby is spending the day watching a Criminal Minds marathon on TNT. Very patriotic - FBI vs. serial killers.

A lazy day, a bit of cooking, enjoying the pleasantly cool sunshine. BBQ later with friends and watching their neigbourhood fireworks.

We found out there was a neighbourhood 4th July party. Our neighbours (who asked me around to fix their computer - the only time they want to socialise) had an invitation on their kitchen countertop. My wife mentioned we didn't get one. Apparently the people organising it didn't want me there. I said to our neighbour that the whole revolutionary war thing didn't bother me. Apparently that wasn't the issue, they just didn't want one of the "loosers" there.
I do wonder if it's just me sometimes. No one else, by and large, seems to have an issue with being a Brit in the U.S., but this sodding town seems to have a major issue. Time to move somewhere a little more enlightened I think.
