How's the weather now? You do realize, this is the worst June on record (at least in SF) - it NEVER rains in June, but it rained a whole lot in the Bay Area. Looks like SF and Arcata, CA have similar 'highs', with Arcata having more rainfall (see attachments). But you should be seeing almost zero rainfall in June, July, August. After about 12 years in SF, I finally got tired of the daily summer fog, and moved 25 miles inland and into an entirely different weather system. You SHOULD have some lovely weather in Aug, Sep, Oct.

Have you manged to explore the area yet? Highway 299 is a fantastic drive through the mountains. I love stopping in Weaverville, an old logging town that has some rough and ready bars, a few trendy eating spots, and an old Chinese temple ... lots of interesting history there. If you carry on to Redding, then go north on I5, you get into the Shasta region, which is beautiful.

You are also very close to the beautiful redwoods state park ... one of my favorite places to visit - walk the trails around the trees ... so beautiful. Ferndale is also worth a visit.

Thank you for the attachments Steerpike! Hmm the weather is just how shall i say it - Rubbish!!! grrrr
Ive been looking at the general CA weather and it seems it hasnt been good all over CA..here in Humboldt its cold and cloudy and has been very rainy - but here's hoping for some summer - sometime before 2013 would be most helpful :frown:

I love SF but dont blame you at all for moving in search of some sunshine - i thought it was dull and cloudy in the UK but this has been a long old 3 months of dullness!

We live in Eureka which is central for the county - been to the farmers market at Arcata today which is great (but there's only so much lettuce a girl can look at )

I have been on the 299 - very windy road!! Oh I didnt realise Weaverville was so nice!! We just drove straight through it! thanks for that info - will have a little trip up there soon and explore the area.

Yep and I know Ferndale well - very cute town - im going there tomorrow actually!
The Redwoods are amazing -- lots of parks around where I live with amazing trails
It is a stunning area in which to live and i do appreciate the natural beauty --all i need is some sunshine and heat, a few shops (ok a lot more shops) and I'll be set!!!

Things should be looking up for you - late summer is the best time for coastal Northern CA - Indian Summer and all that (at least, it is in the Bay Area - I hope it applies to your area)! I arrived in CA in August, so had a lovely introduction. I moved straight to SF and saw hardly anything of the famous 'fog' until the following spring/summer. Also, even though I lived in SF (in the 'Avenues', of all places - the foggiest part of all!), I worked in Palo Alto which is about 40 miles south and in a different weather zone entirely - basically shielded from the fog by a range of hills. So even in the middle of summer, I would have lovely hot sunny days, then come home to SF at night and enjoy the fog!

You basically need to 'escape' the fog in the mid-summer months ... you have another couple of months to go before the Indian Summer ... hang in there ...
