The more I see of Harris, the less impressed I become. She's quite vapid in interviews and often stammers and flounders outside of her talking points. I don't think she's stupid so she's either craven or lazy.

What's your current thinking about the 2020 election? I know you despise Trump, as do I, but I also know you have a good instinct for the US political scene. I can't believe I'm saying it but I think Trump could win again - a thought that seriously depresses me.

To hijack... seems like if Biden were a bit mentally sharper he would have it in the bag. Otherwise it's looking very good for Trump. It's depressing how all this is so dependent on the individual personalities of a handful of people. And on and on... if Obama had been born physically unattractive he never would have been elected. Yeah, it's depressing.

I have no idea. I need to see who turns out to be the nominee and then what kind of campaign strategy they (and the Democrats writ large) choose to implement.

It's completely possible that Trump could win again. The Republicans are already hitting it hard and their strategy says a lot. They're basically just going to run against AOC and terrify their base with threats of socialism and Khmer Rouge type slaughters. Seriously. The conspiracy shitheads have been given their marching orders and are carpet bombing facebook, Fox, twitter, etc. Basically, they're giving permission to vote for Trump by saying, "We know he's an odious, mentally defective criminal but the Democrats are going to kill you." It's not terribly different from the 2016 strategy. Will it gain Trump any new voters? Unlikely. But if the Democrats shit the bed, it could work.

I feel fairly confident Tulsi would be able to win, the problem is going to be with the current likely candidates, the top 3, is that Biden seems to be losing it, and Warren and Sanders are so far out there that however bad a view people have of Trump they will think well I do not like his Tweets but what he does is comparatively OK.

The problem is what you need to do to win the nomination has been recorded and the attack adds will be so easy to formulate. The system seems designed to destroy people who might actually be good at the job and not look like escapees from a Geriatric home. Combined ages of Trump and the top 3 Dems must be around the 300 mark.

Perhaps there should be a cut off age for this? Would you be comfortable with a Doctor hitting 80, a Surgeon?

So ... I've been vising sick family in UK and not paying too much attention to the news .... although 'impeachment' and 'Ukraine' are impossible to avoid. Anyway ... what's this I hear about Bernie having a heart attack ...? That has GOT to be a big blow to his campaign! And with Biden's son being discussed at length as part of the impeachment dealings, that's surely going to impact him negatively (as someone on this forum said, regardless of any 'wrongdoing', the nepotism implied here is pretty damaging). So where does that leave us now? Is it going to be Warren? Is someone else going to rise up?

I must say, I was very disappointed in both Sanders and Biden so I can't say I'm unahppy. Now we just need to see someone else get their act together ...

Just read this - "While Sanders, at 78, is the oldest candidate in the contest, former Vice President Joe Biden is 76, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is 70. If any of them were elected president next November, they would become the oldest person ever elected to a first term as president. The man whose record they would break? Donald Trump, who was 70 when he won in 2016." ( https://edition.cnn.com/2019/10/07/p...den/index.html)

Well Warren has an issue when she said she lost her job because she was Pregnant and then a tape came up where she had said the opposite.

Anyway very long way to go and who knows what else will arise, certainly if the top 3 are gone then it really opens things up.

If Biden goes down then the obvious successor to the center seems to be Mayor Pete. Plus he has the generational argument.

Beto has made himself unelectable unfortunately.

Are you applying the same standard of accuracy and truth to Trump. If you were the list would be very long.
Then I suspect you don't really care what lies Trump tells on an hourly basis,

BE does have a Trump specific thread.

I thought this was discussing the Democrat nominees? Well it has been so far.

Boiler's goal in life seems to be to draw false equivalencies between all Trump's opponents and Trump. So if Trump drops a turd, but an opponent farts, he's sure to remind us about the farts ...

So go over to the Trump thread and list Trumps falsehoods. It's only balanced and fair as one would expect from a politically Independent person as you claim you are.
So far you've shown little evidence of your claim to be Independent.

I'm at a loss to understand how anyone could support Trump. It shouldn't be even close that he would not re-elected, any one of the Democratic candidates is a better choice.

Over 40% of the country support him still. They like their tax cuts and supreme court justices.

Really? I’d take Trump/any Republican nominee over crackpot radical socialists.

If you have kids, you should offer one of your children $10 to clean your house. Give the child that didn’t help $7, and the child that cleaned $3. Basically how the economy will go if any of those morons get elected.
