I was hoping the bail reform proposition would pass in California, but seems bail bonds is big business and the industry really pushed back. To be fair the politicians did try, legislators passed bail reform and Gov. Jerry Brown signed it into law in 2018, was supposed to take effect October 2019, but the bail bond industry then spent $3 million to get it on the ballot, and voters didn't want reform it seems.

US bail system is just big business.

I was very shocked that liberal CA would not go for the elimination of cash bonds. It seemed so obvious and appropriate. If it doesn't pass in CA, not likely to pass anywhere.

Personally, I think there should be a national law eliminating cash bonds for non violent crimes. It strikes me as a violation of an individuals constitutional rights. No one should spend months or even years in jail (it happens) because they cannot post bond for some minor offense and in spite of the fact that they have NOT been convicted of a crime. Stating the obvious, this abuse effects mostly minorities.

It seems to be an episode of mass hysteria.
The reason for that isn't Trump (not specifically anyhows), it's those assholes who air 24/7 employing the likes of Limbaugh and those other racist lying ******s, that is to say Fox News, AKA Murdoch enterprises. Their non-stop garbage, as I said a fair few months ago, is nothing short of brainwashing, call everyone else in the MSM fake news so that your target audience (ie: anyone stupid enough to absorb their trash) feels obliged to stay with them. Trump has reach but he'd be screwed if it weren't for Fox.
Funnily enough, listening to NPR on the way home and a reporter said that while Biden supporters are shocked that it was such a tight race, Trump supporters are mortified that their God-king didn't cruise every state and that he might actually lose.

And in breaking news, assholes are suing Nevada for counting the votes of those who live outside the state. Apparently no-one who lives outside Nevada can vote in the state after a 30 day absence. I'd say that they've gotten their facts wrong (no shit, Sherlock) and mean those who've left the state for good rather than those who maintain their main residence there. That Trump ****** can talk, he doesn't bloody well live in Florida but he's happy to abuse our tax system and voting rights for his own gratification.
Can we send the twat to Gruinard Island after his sorry ass gets booted out of the White House?

It's amazing how Bernie Sanders accurately predicted what Trump would do: (Watch 2.40 mins to 5.00 mins)

I'm glad Trump plotted to cheat his way to victory as otherwise I think he would have won- if he hadn't encouraged Republicans to vote in person more would have voted by mail which is near 100% effective, but leaving it till election day inevitably a percentage of people will for some reason (like getting sick that day or for all sorts of reasons) not actually get to vote.

Default Re: 2020 Election

Question for our resident experts (I think SanDiego girl is a poll-worker?) ... In reviewing my ballot paper (I made a copy), the ballot paper does not include your name/address/signature. It does not include a serial number. It does include a 'QR' code, but I don't know if that's unique or not. I assume it IS unique.

But the signature that I had to provide when mailing my ballot was put on the envelope. Unfortunately, I didn't bother making a copy of the envelope.

So ... if there is a major challenge of the results, in courts, and there is a 'recount' ... how can they validate the signature, after the fact? The question is - are the envelopes marked with serial number or some way to cross-reference it to the ballot it contained? If not, once the ballot is separated from the envelope it arrived in, can there be a retrospective signature check? Are envelopes actually kept after removing the contents?

Georgia law stipulates that federal elections need the majority rather than plurality, thus requiring a run off. I suspect presidential election is not included in this, but I cant find anything online that confirms or refutes my hunch.

Lovely analogy to Trump and Florida!!!!!

ETA - what's the law in NV, do you know? I'm registered in AZ but live 50/50 between CA and AZ. I pay taxes in both. But I registered my car, and file my taxes using my AZ address, and all my credit cards are billed to AZ, to be 'consistent'. If you just have a home in NV, but don't spend much time there, can you still vote there?

Ah, I see. Since I haven't heard a word on this, I can only imagine it's not an issue.

Probably a great way to get shot, suicide by Trumpster as opposed to the more usual suicide by cop.

Thank you

No good asking me, I'm in construction not state law .

And people have been known to take plea bargains for time served pre-trial, and plead guilty just to get out of jail, most of the time low income and can't afford a legal team, even when they didn't commit the crime, but after months and months in jail waiting, frankly I might do the same just get the hell out.

Hell there have been people convicted, sent to prison for decades, could have been paroled if they admitted guilt but refused to admit guilt because they didn't commit the crime, who were eventually found to have been wrongfully convicted.
