But Biden picking a woman of color will ignite voter excitement in the base similar to what was seen with Obama. Women feel it's time a woman is in the White House helping to decide the future of this country. Exciting 40 million African Americans, 47 million Hispanic Americans and 35 million Asian and Muslim American is terrorizing to the GOP.

I look forward to seeing how that excites States that are only a few election cycles from turning blue like Georgia.

Let us not forget that Colorado, Virginia and Nevada were all once reliable Republican strong holds 20 years ago until the migration of moderate and Democrat voters moved in and changed those states from red to blue strong holds. People are migrating from the cities to suburban areas and that is damaging the future of the Republican party. If you look at the electoral map the red states controlled by Republicans are located in less populated rural states. If more moderate voters leave places like California NYC ect because of high cost of living that becomes a serious game changer. Pay attention to Arizona this year. There are a lot of former Californians in the Cardinal state.
I do find that you are expected to vote to support your ethnicity troubling.

What happened to I have a dream?

Americans have a dream. We dream of the day Donald Trump is fired and sent packing and to do that many of us will gladly band together to rid our country of this national shame. Hell, I'd vote for Boris Johnson to get rid of Donald Trump despite my opinion of the lousy job he's performed in the UK.

It's important to keep things in context.

Well it seems that 'identity politics' is stronger than ever after the recent BLM surge. Many people have decided that attempting to be race-blind didn't work, so we've got to be even more race-conscious.

Nice cut and paste. Any actual thoughts of your own?

Not convinced Harris is the best choice, nor do I think she'll be the nominee. I would rather see her as Attorney general. But let's be realistic here. The early Biden spat is a sideshow. There are a ton of quotes of Republican senators deriding Trump (think Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz for example, both of whom are now kissing Trump's ass). The busing argument in that first debate is really small fry.

So she's unpopular with the 'progressives', who will vote for Biden anyway to get rid of Trump, but she'll attract independents who don't like the sound of 'defund the police' and would like a 'tough on crime' figure. What's not to like?

There is a lot of grubby stuff in her past, from Willie onwards and no doubt before. If she is nominated then do not worry you will hear all about it.

A consensual relationship with Willie Brown? Ok. Did he help her illegally with those two state commissions he helped her secure? Nothing has ever surfaced to indicate that. Nor has anything ever surfaced that shows he supported her first campaign financially in an illegal manner.

Compare and contrast to pretty much anything Trump touches (literally, sometimes).

If you've been in government longer than 5 minutes there is a pretty good chance there has been decisions made that some group will not like. Harris has been the top cop in the state of California which means she has sided with law enforcement a time or two and some progressive groups more than likely will look at that record unfavorably.
But she doesn't have to tick the boxes with every issue concerning the progressives at this stage of the game. We're in the homestretch which mean the VP choice has to do no harm and shore up support of the base and be considered a reliable option as President should something happen to President Biden. It is very rare for the Democrat ticket to have two progressives. One is usually more conservative than the other. Clinton was certainly more conservative than Gore. Ect ect.

Harris will immediately bring in law enforcement credentials that makes her seen as a top authority figure to moderate independent voters while her time in the Senate fighting for causes like rights for all Americans including the BlacklivesMatter ,will only buttress her reputation as a progressive. Harris is highly respected by base voters and her name is mentioned probably more than anyone else as being ready to fill in at the top spot among the various candidates. Biden/Harris is a winning ticket.

But in addition to that, the choice should be strong enough to win in the top spot in a later election cycle. The amazing thing about sitting in that office in the White House is how that responsibility either changes voter's opinion about you in the affirmative or unfavorably. Just ask Donald Trump. He will forever be known as the President that allowed a pandemic to kill 100,000s of Americans because of his incompetence.

I remember during the primaries in 2007 when so many Hillary supporters had their doubts about Obama. Many said if he was the nominee there was no way he'd beat John McCain. I also remember later on in the process how Democrats were saying Biden was too conservative to be on the ticket with Obama. Biden was seen as a politician who reached too often across the isle. It's interesting to look back on these positions many years later.

Personally speaking I like Liz Warren for VP but the electorate in 2020 is in a different mood and place. Donald Trump's racist attacks on nearly every minority group has ignited a ground swell of anger that can be tapped into in order to eject him out of office. And let us not forget that it was the African American voters all across the South that saved Joe Biden's bacon while fighting for the nomination against Senator Sanders. And in politics and dating you go with the one who brought you. While canvasing I'm seeing a high level of excitement about the prospect of a female VP that is quite inspiring.
I would say the top picks at this moment are Harris, Duckworth, Susan Rice.
